Name changed.

Where in the UK, ideally England or Wales, can we move to for about 700k, where we can get a detached house/bungalow with no near neighbours on a no through road or a very quiet one?

We're used to living rurally so driving on single track roads, farming activity and smells and being miles from shops etc. is fine. No children at home so schools aren't a concern. We love hiking and do a lot of it where we live now. We want to have a cat again so no busy roads. I would also like to be within 15 miles of somewhere large enough to have a book club and/or a yoga class but it's not vital.

I'm fairly sure we can't get what we want here (Hampshire) but Isle of Wight is a possibility (we have family there, and visit often) although a lot of what I see there even at 750k has a small plot size with other houses much too close.

Otherwise I think we might have to go north or to Wales to get that sort of seclusion at that budget but the weather is putting me off a bit.

Please could you suggest some good areas, that you know well? We won't be ready to move until next year as we need to do some work on the house to make it sellable, so please don't go to the trouble of posting Rightmove links unless you really want to.

Thanks in advance.

The vast majority of the country.

Exactly.

Sowerby Bridge - the yoga classes etc that you want will be in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.

Maybe not secluded enough, Fenay Bridge, W Yorks

The Rightmove links were just to give you an idea of what sort of house you could buy in Suffolk for around £700,000. Cratfield is within 15 miles of Halesworth or Eye and the other Suffolk property I posted a link for is near Woodbridge, for yoga classes. Lots of beautiful country walks & the Suffolk coastline to explore.

Definitely the Shropshire / Powys / Herefordshire borders. Plenty of options on Rightmove.

The weather is wetter than in the South (East) but not that bad - certainly dryer than in Wales itself.

Northumberland sounds a perfect match.
or areas of North Yorkshire

Wiltshire.?
Somerset?
Due to satnav I'm forever ending up on single track lanes and they do have houses there.

Climate here in Gower is quite nice! I live in Southgate facing the sea and it’s lovely.

This is fairly remote but easy access to everything g

Parts of Somerset, definitely Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, much of wales… it’s a case of trawling the internet looking as it’s not so much price but availability. One came up near me recently, 4 bed detached on 3 acres for £750k and that was only 45 mins from Bristol, hardly ultra remote, only downside was near airport flight path. I knew the seller, going into care home

Erwood floods, that property has “ask agent” under flood risk.

Definitely loads of dirt cheap houses in N Yorks. Can get a converted barn for around £200k up here. Am surprised southerners haven’t cottoned on yet. Never heard Hebden Bridge mentioned on MN btw, very much a local secret.
