Moving to Alderley Edge?

I'm thinking about moving to Alderley Edge. I've worked in Macclesfield for several years and regularly pass through and have been out in the evening several times but I want to know what it's like to live there. Is there anyone who is living there and is willing to offer some insider info? I currently live in Saddleworth so the move will reduce my commute but I'm also thinking about retiring in the next 5-10yrs so this would likely be my last move. I'm late 40s so I'd like to know if it has enough about it to keep me occupied from now until I die🤣.

It’s very soulless and there’s not actually much in the village apart from luxury travel agents, dentists, Botox places.

the bars and restaurants are pretentious and chain—ey. The edge itself is lovely though

with that budget I’d look at the area around hale, south wilmslow or even knutsford, which is beautiful but you have to put up with plane noise.

I live in Alderley Edge, having moved back from the Middle East a few years ago. I think in general it's a nice place to live, but like others have said the houses are massively overpriced and I cannot see much reason for it. The pubs and restaurants are average at best. I think the people who live here are very pretentious, the local community is all about what people can get from you and if you have nothing to offer commercially your engagements with them will be limited. Don't come here expecting to make real friends with people. Finally, there is a really disappointing trend in the community which is that anyone who lives outside of Alderley is a peasant, but I think its just a story the locals tell themselves as an excuse to feel better about their overpriced, average-sized houses.
