Lettings agents warned me about loud neighbours

We have been looking for a new property to rent for quite a while now. It's not easy because we have a dog, I am pregnant, can't attend normal viewings because we live far from the area we want to live in and because car rides make me very sick due to my pregnancy.

We found a house we like but before sending us the application form, the lettings agents said they have to warn me about our potential neighbours. Apparently they've had several noise complaints, mostly shouting and loud music too.

I would normally think it's not worth applying for but because we've been struggling to find something and not many agencies want to send us videos, we feel like this could be the only option for us.

What would you do?

No way. If it's bad enough they feel they have to prewarn you it must be REALLY bad.

Not a chance! I would make any compromise necessary to avoid noisy neighbours.

Given that most letting agents will tell you everything and anything they can to get you to apply for a property, either this one is wonderful and they agent is trying to put you off so they can swipe it themselves (unlikely!) or it is really, really bad.

If they are warning you I'd stay well away .
With a new baby you will not want that .

Are they obliged to tell prospective tenants if there have been official complaints made through local authority etc, I wonder? I’m not sure. Otherwise I’m not sure what’s motivating them as they’re not usually so selfless!

If the letting agents had to warn you, it's bad. They have basically told you you will have nightmare neighbours. I wouldn't even consider renting that home.

No I think very noisy neighbours could make life really really miserable for you. I wouldn't risk it myself...

Are letting agents legally obligated to tell you? That's really interesting as I've just had a tough year with a mentally ill downstairs neighbour (a lot of noise, police attendance etc). If I were you, I would not do this. If I'd known about my current situation, I would have steered well clear. Peace and quiet is NOT overrated, trust me.

I have never heard of a lettings agency willingly warn about noisy neighbours! You would be insane to rent it knowing that.

If a letting agency actually tells you this instead of pretending everything is perfect, I would assume it is unbearable!

Do not go for it!!!!
We have the worst neighbours , they wake us nearly nightly , early hours ect..., not even loud music- shouting and screaming at each other 3x children 2x adults, their dog constantly barks as left outside for an hr a time.
Its awful!!

Absolutely not - there's nothing for them to gain from warning you so just be grateful and heed their warning.

No. There is a reason that they’ve told you. You’ll have a newborn and the neighbours from hell who will keep it awake.

I appreciate that finding somewhere is proving really tough, but this isn’t the place.

How far away is the house? Adjoined? across the drive? What's your attitude to noise? I don't notice music, traffic, sirens etc because I'm a city girl whereas dp thinks it's noisy here.

They could be the neighbours from hell, or it could be the previous occupants were completely intolerant of normal family life and moaned continuously. With a young baby and a dog you are unlikely to be silent yourselves but loud music wouldn't be good. I would get further information before writing it off

I would rent it for a very short time to help me get settled in the area if I wanted to live there badly enough, but I would want to pay a much cheaper rent.
And I agree with others, it's a weird thing for them to be telling you. Surely they want the rental income, why are they warning people off? It's nice of them, but weird.

If they're warning you then it's awful and they've lost lots of tenants to the neighbour. Do not move into this property. Having a newborn is hard enough without noise complaints.

I wouldn't even consider it. I've lived next door to really loud neighbours and it was miserable.
