Join me in a 2026 retirement countdown

Next year is the year I'm going to hang up my corporate boots and retire and I can't wait. I'll be 57 and I want to finish just before Christmas, none of that arguing over who's going to cover the Christmas period nonsense.

Not really sure when I should let my boss know. I'm on 3 months notice so I guess that's plenty of time.

Anyone care to join me in a countdown?

I think the thought of never seeing some people again is what makes the final decision hard. I have lots of low level enjoyable and interesting contact with people all over the UK. But I know we won't stay in touch once I finish so I feel like I'll need to replace that.

Oh for me it’s a positive, I will stay in touch with the ones I like, but I’m really not wishing to for the rest.

but I do think in part that’s due to the fact this is a very stressful hectic time, which is pure co incidence, and I’m not enjoying it at all. No one is, it’s just a nightmare time for everyone, but it’s likely colouring how I feel as I just don’t want ti do it any more.
