As the name suggests, I'm a name changed regular

OK, so I'm with DP of 10 years, we have a 3yo. We separated for 1.5 years, moved back in together nearly a year ago to try again.

We have a whole heap of crappy relationship issues that even you good ladies couldn't tackle all at once. But the lying thing is coming to a head. Examples:

I've found emails from him recently to people we don't see (old friends, school friends etc) casually claiming to have been in the French Foreign Legion for a few years, to have been running a multi squillion pound business and similar lies. Seriously, the French Foreign Legion.

He constantly lies casually about anything he does. A part time night course is "University", he promotes himself when describing his past jobs (he's currently unemployed) and I'm not just talking a bit of creative writing on a CV.

He lies all the time to me about small things, what he's done that day even. He just seems to find lying as easy as the truth and so lies even when it doesn't matter.

I've tried to be a bit understanding - it's embarrassing and depressing to be unemployed and lying to people you haven't seen for ages is hardly unusual. But the pure fantasist madness of the lies like the French Foreign Legion thing worry me.He just dropped it so casually into a email about Poppy day, how he supported the troops as he had served in the FFL. He also mentioned it wasn't as romantic as everyone thought and that he wouldn't join up again. I mean - WTF?????

Sorry for banging on. Does this seem familiar to anyone?

God yeah - I know someone on another forum who claimed to have a PHd - used it as a basis for constant sneering and up one manship at those she saw as 'lesser' mortals. Turns out it was all made up - this woman has a history of lying and living in a fantasy world. She allegedly started studying for the PHd but didn't finish it. It's quite sad really - reckon it's some sort of mental illness or severe personality defect. She once (this is REALLY funny) posted all these details about her hubbys alledged business dealings with another company, including slating the other company - someone contacted her husband/the other company (can't quite remember which)The husband was supposedly the violent type. He dragged her out of a car once in front of their small children - she later claimed that was made up but with those sorts of fantasists, you can never really tell. So who knows what really happened when he found out about all this stuff she posted? She's had more 'business' ventures than hot dinners - the latest is that's she's running a beauty salon I suppose a fantasy life online makes up for a sad life in reality though - you can be whatever you want

So OP - have you challenged him yet? What did he say ?

tallulahbelly · 16/11/2009 23:24

Bunnysoprano - Fantasyland has equal opportunities citizenship: hard things for the men, Farrow & Ball and Laura Ashley for the ladies.

Sassybeast · 17/11/2009 12:03

Oh Tallulahbelly - you must know 'my friend' the beauty salon owner. Farrow and Ball features quite heavily in her Fantasyland as well

abedelia · 17/11/2009 12:20

In the OW's, she has a separate wardrobe for her 'designer' shoes (not quite sure how that fits in her small 2 bed flat) - and she is also supposedly studying for a PhD at the same time as a part time degree in fashion design. Quite how she fits in her 13k a year assistant's job on top of all this I am not sure

orangina · 17/11/2009 12:39

Does anyone remember wig and robe? Not sure he/she actually beleived what they said on here, but if they did, it was the same thing, no?

Sassybeast · 17/11/2009 17:37

Abedelia PHds or lack of seem to be a common theme in Fantasyland as well. Maybe there is a hierarchy of fantasies I think 'my friend' is La Queen of the tall story by far though We are constantly awaiting the next howler.....
