I'm interested in hearing how people have been treated by social services in domestic violence cases witnessed by children.

Did they treat you fairly with compassion and understanding or did they hold you to blame for your children witnessing domestic violence?

its been a few years since my degree but i remember only 2 days of DV training in my third year.

Whilst Dv was spoken about in general terms ie if we were discussing a hypothetical case and we were asked to discuss what sort of issues may be going on at home or whatever.

It was referred to rather than taught iyswim.

Funding is of course an issue, but we already have the laws in place to act against violant partners its just that even when a woman does build up the courage to press charges the courts do not support her. he gets let out, he thinks he is abovethe law and that the british legal system have given him permission of sorts to abuse her.
she feels there is no one to save her from him so she carries on getting beaten.

Its very much an area i would like to become more involved in when i return to work. sadly there are very few position available as they simply don't employ SW's for Dv cases.

Mamazon- I will be a third year social work student in September, to date we have had two lectures on domestic violence.

One in our first year in sociology and one last year in legislation. So sadly it doesn't look like things have improved since you did your training.

its appalling. DV is thought to be present in something like 25% of all households so how it can be disregarded during training is beyond me.
