Is new boyfriend a sadist?

I met a man a few months ago while out with my friend in our local. He caught my eye and we exchanged numbers and up until now, have been dating, having a good laugh, connecting, I've even met his two sons out for a meal together, both in their twenties now.

He has a fairly good job, good saver, nice house that he has cleared the mortgage on. Seems to be really interested and communication is good.... only a few months in though, so I'm very aware that I don't know him well enough.

We have started sleeping together but nothing has really happened. It feels like he's not all that interested in sex at all. I was the one to initiate the first kiss and it was odd, but I wrote it off as nerves at first. He doesn't seem to want to kiss. I thought maybe he's asexual. No erection, kind of a semi one, but that was only once. When we are out and about he holds my hand most of the time, seems proud to be with me. Lots of hugs but just no interest in sex.

We've talked about it and he has put it down to age. He is 55. He got Viagra and nothing happened. Hasn't tried the other ones, whatever they are.

I've noticed he was behaving oddly with his phone. Taking it to the toilet if it was on the coffee table. Putting it face down. All notifications set to not show who or what they are. So I had a look while he was asleep and he's viewing a lot of sadistic material. It's women being humiliated, some of his Google searches are punishment of women and some are punishment of prostitutes. One week that we were really trying to sort out the sex issue, he was googling punishment of prostitutes regularly.

I've brought it up with him and he says he now feels he isn't allowed to have any secrets. He claims it's all fantasy and he doesn't want to harm women and it's "not what I think". I remained calm and asked him to explain it and tell me what he wants from his sex life with me but he clams up.

I've ended it and he's upset but I feel really disgusted. He actually told me I need to accept that's how he is.

Why are you even trying to analyse this weirdo?

I'm not. I ended it.

Op I'd be verrryyyy wary of giving any personal details out to a guy in a pub.

Sorry if someone has already said this. X

So how do you meet new people?

Online is just as risky, if not more?

You can meet in a prearranged place.

Get to know someone before sex etc.

Sorry just realised I'm likely an older generation to you.

All we did was exchange phone numbers. Then we dated, but he didn't know where I live until a few weeks ago. I rent out my spare room to a long term lodger, so he never actually came to my place.

I thought I was getting to know him, but had I not poked around in his phone, this would have all stayed a big secret. I thought he didn't want sex or wasn't attracted to me. Both are in fact true, I thought there might be someone else.

Sometimes people take ages to show us who they really are?

You are very smart to put him in your rearview.

BoredBug · Today 14:59

So glad you ended things, what a lucky escape!

bigboykitty · Today 15:00

You did the right thing @RicolaCherry . Something was very wrong here.

TouchMyBumThisIsLife · Today 15:06

Meeting people online is a very bad idea. The best way to meet people is through friends. Lets face it, after the age of about 25 all the good people have gotten married and are not going to be dating.

PollyPocket80 · Today 15:07

Massive bullet dodged.
I agree with another poster though who said for future reference maybe you should have a think about why/how your family and friends were picking up on his red flags but you weren't.

DrBlackbird · Today 15:07

Slightly off topic (good move op to twig the phone) but is it just me that finds it outrageous that google allows such a search? The automatic response from Google should / ought to be "this topic is not permitted". End of.

Google searches are punishment of women and some are punishment of prostitutes. One week that we were really trying to sort out the sex issue, he was googling punishment of prostitutes regularly.

Lambsydaisy · Today 15:07

Too much porn use, means he can't get aroused in real life with a partner, and the porn use escalates to more extreme types as they need something more and more to get turned on. It's a vicious cycle.
You did the right thing, especially if fulfilling sex is important to you.

He says it's "just fantasy" and "he loves women and would never hurt anyone".

It might be true, he's just having fantasies with performing terrifying non consensual acts on women and not acting on them but unless I'm a hardcore masochist and this stuff turns me on I would never pick someone like this as partner cause you never know f he might pull a Gisele Pelicot on you while you're sleeping.

In any case, he's got a flaccid cock, massive sex issues and is terrible in bed so just for this reason I would bin him off (unless you're ok with a sexless relationship.

Who tf is getting married at twenty five or under in this day and age?

If you said thirty five, yeah maybe but not twenty five lol.

RJMacReady · Today 15:18

Gross. At least now you know why his cock didn't work 🤷‍♀️. Well done for ending it!

MacNCheesie · Today 15:22

My guess is he's very sexually confused.

Maybe he is gay?

There are plenty of men who are fathers, been married to women and who are gay.

Look up 'princess and prostitute syndrome'or 'Madonna and Whore syndrome.'
Men are only able to be aroused by the 'whore side of it- hence his inability to be aroused with you but certainly by sadistic porn.

I don't think he is a sadist, but something has gone very wrong either with early sexual experiences, his own sexual identity and he is unable to have a normal sexual relationship.

CountryMouse22 · Today 15:24

it does make you wonder who many of those creeps are out there.

He says it's "just fantasy" and "he loves women and would never hurt anyone".

I don't fantasise about hurting strangers. Whether he would act this out in real life is not the only point. The fact that he enjoys the images of women being harmed and humiliated is awful. Especially as in porn, real women are experiencing those things he is watching and at least some of them are may be coerced into those roles.

We would all know a man enjoying watching racist images of black people being humiliated or harmed was a racist man. Yet somehow as a society we pretend that men orgasming to image of women crying, being humiliated or harmed in no way reflects on their attitudes to women.

What a pile of crap.

Well done for dumping him OP.

CountryManor · Today 15:30

Paganpentacle · Today 14:36

He clearly isnt aroused by anything other than humiliation and degradation of women during sex.
get out now.

Yes! This! Not worth it, he can't get turned on by normal sex.

Clubsoda1 · Today 15:31

@RicolaCherry
My BF has similar interests, but unlike your ex he is able to have a normal sex life that is not completely dominated by a fixation.
The way you described his complete inability to function was the most worrying part and I wouldn't be surprised if he was a porn addict.
Good for you for having ended this because there didn't seem to be anything positive about him.

It used to happen. I suppose now because of prices people don't even get married but just couple up. But I stand by the age thing. All the best people are gone by age 25.

AngieFromStockport · Today 15:36

Something not completely dissimilar happened to me. I ghosted him before any first date.
My advice is to do some basic checks on any new man before you get involved.
If you are on a date, stay in public and remember to 'Ask for Angela' if you don't feel comfortable.
