Husband and I been married for 16 years. Have 2 boys together who are mid teens. Have felt very lonely within my marriage over the last few years. He has not been abusive but is unkind & unthoughtful. Left me in tears on my birthday, never would walk next to me, would walk miles ahead and roll his eyes as to how slow I was, was unsupportive during my pregnancies. I caught him texting other women, saying he wanted to meet them. He said it was nothing. Feel very alone & scared what the future holds. Any advice from those who have been in similar situations please?

I know exactly how a lonely marriage feels, it's not always easy to walk away due to children, financial ties etc but i would seriously think about it as any man who treats you like that, and has the audacity to contact other women wanting to meet them isn't a man you want to be married to, he's not wanting to meet them to discuss the weather is he lets be honest.

Do yourself a favour and plan your exit and be happy...

Perhaps start making a plan. It may be that he has checked out too and thinking about waiting for the kids to leave. You don't need to rush but you could prepare so when you are ready to go you know you can do so well informed.

It certainly doesn't sound like he is heartbroken. Just pissed at you for upsetting the balance of his life. Hope you are okay, OP. Stay strong.

Thank you for the replies. I have told him I want a divorce and he says that he will move out but I have broken his heart. He said he will have nothing to do with me. I explained we have to communicate about the children & he said he will contact them directly. I feel numb.

Is he loved you, he would have treated you better, its that simple. From the things you've said, he's treated you like someone he doesnt even like that much. He is playing along with what he thinks he should say, and what he can say to hurt you. Love is something that happens every day, not just when its walking out the door.
You have done the absolute best thing for yourself and most importantly you have done something very brave for your children's sake. Children who grow up in unhappy households learn that unhappiness is 'normal' and repeat that in their own relationships. You no longer tolerating it and giving them a home free of that tension is the best thing you can do for them for the rest of their lives. Toddlers have to suffer through tooth brushing so that they have healthy teeth and learn healthy habits for the rest of their lives - short term pain for long term gain. You should he incredibly proud of yourself, OP. I wish you the absolute best.
