My husband said he’s sick of giving me hugs

Hi it’s just want my title said. I wanted a hug earlier and he started shouting at me saying it’s annoying, he’s sick of giving me hugs every day and to grow up. I don’t get any affection from him and he doesn’t say he loves me. We only have sex when I’m fertile. He never gives me any compliments or wants to engage in chat/talk about our day. When he’s on shift he doesn’t txt me or anything. No morning or good night texts. Never says he’s looking forward to seeing me when he gets home. He gives the cat more affection than me.

Don’t stay in a loveless, fairly cruel relationship

Whoops75 · 10/10/2026 23:21

Do not have a baby and tie yourself to him.
Be brave and walk away, enjoy your one precious life.

Boreded · 10/10/2026 23:21

I’m confused…if you live together why would you text each other good morning and good night? The texting at work thing wouldn’t bother me either, it’s work.

When you say he won’t hug you what do you mean, like ever? Or do you constantly ask him for a hug when he is doing things and he brushes you off?

I’m just getting odd vibes from this one.

But ultimately, don’t stay with someone who isn’t making you happy, and don’t bring a child into the world if you aren’t happy.

He works shifts so I mean when he’s in work. He works unsocial hours.

Yes I did today, he was on the computer today. I thought I asked once a day.

Definitely do not allow yourself to get pregnant. Get an IUD fitted while you’re working out how to separate

I’ll have to leave him. It’s just all the headache to do it. I don’t have any money. I’m on relatively low wages to have my own home.

I don’t know where to begin. I’m 42 starting over.

It won't be easier with a kid in the mix. He sounds awful, get out of there.

  1. Don't let him in you
  2. Let him know the relationship is over
  3. Decide between you who will move out
  4. Get the house on the market asap
  5. Be compassionate to yourself, you are doing a hard thing

42 is a good time to start over. Plenty of life ahead of you. I know it doesn’t feel like it right this moment.

Great post! As soon as you step into it though, the positives are huge. Learn to big yourself and fill your days with happy things. This is terrible for yourself esteem, which is notoriously unstable through pregnancy and motherhood. Make yourself happy.... he won't, can't and doesn't want to.

shivermetimbers77 · 11/10/2026 00:57

Please please please do not have a child with this man!!

ThatLoudCat · 11/10/2026 00:59

Wow, he sounds awful. I hug my husband multiple times a day!

Life is too god damn short to be with someone who can’t show you a smidgen of affection.

its better to be skint & single than what you currently have. Don’t tie yourself into 20yrs of utter misery.

we all deserve to be loved & not be on relationships with people who are just settling because being in a relationship feels better than not. Live the life you want but I don’t think its this one, you shouldn’t need to be begging for hugs

Flomingho · 11/10/2026 02:01

What a horrible man. I wouldn't stay with someone who considered showing affection to be a chore and a nuisance. Do not have a baby with him. He will get nastier and more selfish with the advent of sleepless nights.

TheOvertGardener · 11/10/2026 02:27

Maybe someone else said this but would you really want someone so cold to be the father of your child?

cordeliavorkosigan · 11/10/2026 02:34

It doesn't sound like he loves you.
You are definitely young enough to leave. Even if you were 75 you wouldn't want to live the next 10 + years like this so obviously not the next 40+ .
Onwards and upwards, you deserve so much better
