Is this an opportunistic cheat or a relationship in crisis?

Imagine you met a guy on a night out with a friend who you're staying with for a few weeks, got on amazingly well and you give him your friend's number and see each other several times over those two weeks. Dates evening and daytime with lots of kissing but nothing further, not trying it on sexually but obvious chemistry and very hard to say goodbye after dates. Really good dates, really good conversation, progressing as it should. Proper old fashioned dating.

Then he confesses he's in a 6 year old relationship and doesn't know what to do now as this has made him question it. It was excruciatingly painful to make the decision to walk away and not make him decide and both of you are distraught and in tears.

Reasonably young both late 20s, him sort of famous then, didn't recognise him though but knew his name. Still is kind of famous, most people will know the name. Not a footballer or anyone in a band. Really the last person you'd think of as a cheat.

Does this follow the pattern of the opportunistic cheat and is it foolish to think it doesn't, that he wasn't looking for an opportunity to cheat?

Consider this - someone in a six year relationship allowed themselves to undermine that relationship with someone else is an arsehole.

Oh, and do you really he wouldn't do the same again to you ? Of course he would, no problem.

Get rid.

I did get rid all those years ago. I just stuffed it all down and didn't talk about it and probably didn't process it or get over it properly.
