How do you deal with toxic relationships?

My mum is constantly nasty to me , picking faults in everything I do , arguments , digs , making me feel useless .

At what point do you step away and how do you do it ? Any books to read ?

I am NC with my mum. I ended the relationship when it became clear she was no longer safe to have around my children, but also when it got to a point where I said to myself that if she had been my partner, I would have broken up with her and walked away without looking back. You can’t have any relationship without trust and she had betrayed me so deeply by putting my children in harm’s way and spreading lies about Dh and I to cover it up, that the relationship was simply irreparable.

The best thing I could recommend is therapy. You can’t read books to undo trauma. You genuinely need to do work on yourself to move forward and heal. It was money well spent and helped me tremendously.
