Gone on everyone make me feel better.

Dp been with him for 15 years and told for valentines day has bought me a kettle, cookie cutters, and mugs. All these where panicked bought last night when I went to bed from amazon which I have a wish list on for when someone asks what I want for my bday etc.

Iv told him to send them back I dont want them and tried to explain people break up over things like this and was joking about it wasnt mad at all.

He's now in a mood with me for telling him to send them back. And the more I think about im getting angry.

Cheer me up tell me the best and worst you have been gifted from your other halfs

We got cards, no gifts for each other. VD is a commercial enterprise TBH, rather celebrate our anniversary which is actually a day that really matters.

maxslice · 16/02/2026 22:34

Not V day, but for our 40th wedding anniversary he gave me a portable house dehumidifier. No card. Sigh.

I hope you buy him random household items for his birthday and Christmas. OPs bloke should get a toaster and your husband a clothes airer.

I would stop putting any thought into someone's presents if they do this kind of crap.
.
I mean, one fuck up or misstep you might overlook, but these blokes who clearly don't give a shit or second thought to it on a regular basis deserve irons and toastie makers.

My husband has always made it clear he doesn't do Valentines day and the best i ever got was a text message.

Indianajet · 16/02/2026 22:55

I was married to my late husband for almost fifty years - and can't remember any Valentine's presents - good or bad. I do remember his kindness and support through all the ups and downs of life. Valentine's cards/gifts mean nothing - commitment to each other does.

I think these are pretty good presents I genuinely don't see the problem?

A kettle isn’t a good present unless you really need or have expressed a desire for a new kettle, surely?

That's fine if you're both on the same page.

I never understand why though a bloke "not doing" valentines or birthdays or whatever, apparently trumps his partner's feelings about it.

If one of you likes to celebrate something, it doesn't actually hurt the other person to go along with it. You do it to see the person you supposedly love smile.

So you don't believe in birthdays- don't bloody celebrate your own - but if your partner likes to celebrate theirs, then get the hell on board. I'm not talking extremes like spending outrageous sums, but you don't have to be a cold shower about it.

We had a quiet day at home, made dinner together and watched a film. He did surprise me with Lego blocks with a photo of us on and a fridge magnet that plays our wedding song.

Not Valentines Day but my ex husband once went to a big city close to us on on Christmas Eve with his best mate. Under the excuse his mate hadn’t brought his girlfriend a present and he wanted to have a look for any last minute stocking fillers for me. Assured me he had my present and was just helping a mate.

the following morning I got presented with an Air Wick Christmas candle. Not even wrapped. Just in a Pound Land carrier bag! 🙄

I got a lovely card, chocolates and flowers on Valentine’s Day. Last night I said, that the flowers I got on my birthday were the same as the ones I got on Valentine’s Day (White bouquet from M&S) My husband said, yes, but they are not as good as they were the only bunch left at 5pm 🤣

Glad he's an ex! 😂

I was under 30 and he bought me a nightdress that his grandmother would have worn (long sleeves, high neck, buttons on bib at front, warm material, down to feet). I shouted and threw it at him!
