Is this dodgy behaviour?

What would you think of a man who criticises you, and then when you get upset accuses you of "being in the huff"?

Then when you are even more upset refuses to give you a few minutes to yourself to to think, get your head together?

Is this gaslighting/manipulation?

Yeah it’s arsehole territory

Lionness5 · 22/08/2025 20:11

It's a clue that you should dump him immediately.

waitingforlifeonmars · 22/08/2025 20:12

He’s a wanker and won’t change because he doesn’t and won’t ever believe he is in the wrong! It’ll only get worse

Campingisnexttogodliness · 22/08/2025 20:13

You need to get rid...

thistimelastweek · 22/08/2025 20:13

On the information available, he sounds like an arse .

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 22/08/2025 20:19

It was very unpleasant.

Bin.

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 22/08/2025 20:19

It was very unpleasant.

You don't want to be around anyone who makes you feel like that.

ForTipsyFinch · 22/08/2025 21:43

I would assume he didn’t like me very much and dump him.

aquashiv · 22/08/2025 21:44

If you want to test someone's true colours, respond similarly and reveal their true nature, showing that you deserve better.

FeistyFrankie · 22/08/2025 21:48

Sounds like a bully.

Insults you, makes you feel bad, then takes zero responsibility for how his behaviour makes you feel, and continues to deflect everything back onto you when you display behaviours/an emotional response he doesn't like.

He's telling you that he cannot handle another person's negative emotions and will blame you anytime he does something to upset you.

A decent man would reflect on his behaviour and look at what he said or did to cause the upset in the first place. This guy is telling you loud and clear that he will never look inward or make any attempts to change himself, regardless of how he makes other people feel.

Run a mile, OP.

savethatkitty · 22/08/2025 21:49

Sorry but it's "Tell him to Fuck Off" behaviour.

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 22/08/2025 23:24

He also once said to me "don't correct me". That's bad too, right?

OP posts:
MageQueen · 22/08/2025 23:58

He sounds like a complete dick. And yes, this is all part of the controlling asshole playbook.

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 23/08/2025 09:25

Thanks everyone who answered.

OP posts:
Zingzoomyzingy · 23/08/2025 09:27

Yes, it’s blaming you for their own appalling behaviour. Run. 🚩🚩🚩

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 23/08/2025 11:31

It's so sad. I've been so good to him. Maybe if I'd treated him badly I'd have gotten more respect.

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 22/08/2025 23:24

Oh lord, the only time I’m ever said that to DP was when we were larking about and I was telling him the royal family were reptiles in human suits Smile

If someone says it seriously, I would assume that they are very pompous and unpleasant and probably mean in all ways.

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 23/08/2025 12:01

He was extremely serious about it.

OP posts:
Piggywiggydoodlepip · 23/08/2025 20:29

Is it behaviour that's likely to escalate?

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/08/2025 20:30

Yes. He needs to be gone from your day to day life. This is who he is and he’s not going to change.

IntrusiveThoughtsHell · 23/08/2025 20:34

Take it from me, this is the tip of the iceberg. Listen to your gut. You don't deserve that

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 23/08/2025 20:47

That's what I'm afraid of, that there will be more and much worse.

OP posts:
IntrusiveThoughtsHell · 23/08/2025 20:49

There will be. If someone minimises after they are the ones who upset you, rather than apologising and trying to understand how they can change their behaviour, I'd say that's a huge red flag. Not that I can see it myself at times!

Dabberlocks · 23/08/2025 20:51

Piggywiggydoodlepip · 23/08/2025 20:29

Is it behaviour that's likely to escalate?

Yes. He needs to be dumped before his verbal aggression becomes physical.
