I’m sure this is rife and they were just very unlucky! One of my managers lives with a colleague through the week and goes home to his wife at the weekend. Any more?

Affairs are everywhere in the police and law firms. I've worked for both and police Christmas parties were notorious for it, and I've known several law firm partners having affairs with their secretaries.

Apparently it also happens a lot between vets and their clients (not patients) Confused

Our local vet was struck off for making animal sexual abuse images so you never know 😱

It's the same everywhere and always has been. Back in the early 70s, I remember one of the female teachers running through our primary school classroom to get to the staff room in tears. We all knew it was something to do with her relationship with one of the other teachers ( only 6 in this building). Our class teacher just rolled his eyes and ignored it, even when the affair partner would stroll through to the staff room 5 minutes later trying to look nonchalant.
It was everywhere in local government but I think its not quite as prevalent nowadays in councils. Maybe I just don't notice any more. 🤣

I work at the golden arches

We have a lot of teenagers through to older staff (I'm older)

The amount of shagging is unbelievable

Teen A will be dating teen B,and teen B will have knocked off teen C and maybe D

Teen A will get wind of it and it all blows up but then you find out that they've been shagging teen E behind teen B's back anyway

The drama-I refuse to get sucked in

We had a really lovely fella working there (in his 20's) very charming, handsome and smooth

He tried to shag every female member (me included) and had his way with about half the female staff (and a few married ladies)

They all seemed to get pregnant to him and all but one had abortions-his count was well over 20

Work knew about it and promoted him so he had power over them as well as getting his end away

Another was a manager, his wife was heavily pregnant with baby no3 and he was shagging a female staff member

It was awful-shed come in (pregnant/with a newborn) and we all knew they'd been shagging in the toilets 20 minutes earlier and once in the car park (my eyes!)

(Their behaviour at a Christmas party was disgusting but they where obsessed with each other)

It all came out with work in the end-he still works there and she took the blame and left

His wife doesn't have a clue and I don't know her to tell her

Yes DSD works there and has a very similar story to tell. One of the managers (married) has slept his way round most of the female staff in her branch and a couple of other local branches. The other managers turn a blind eye

Well; this is depressing. Because DH and I both WFH a lot, I had actually forgotten about workplace antics and affairs. But now I remember old workplaces where there was a work hard/ play hard attitude

on the flip side; I’ve known a male exec who would never even go for a lunch alone with a woman in case there was a sniff of improper behavior. I would get asked along for lunches just to be the extra person.

IsadoraQuagmire · 21/07/2025 10:19

I had a temporary office job about a year and a half ago, big office, and only two people WEREN'T having an affair (mostly with other people at work, one guy there dumped his fiancée for someone I knew from my gym) Two of the other couples left their spouses in that time (one happened just after I left, but I was told about it) Of the two that weren't having affairs, one of them was mad about his very new wife and droned on about her all day, and the other had a live-in girlfriend. I asked something about her to make conversation one day, and he said that she was short and dark haired but he'd never have looked at her if he could get a tall, beautiful, naturally blonde girlfriend like me. I said maybe he could get one if he became extremely rich!😂 So, if HE was faithful, it wasn't by choice.
I found that job very entertaining, all that drama and I was only there for about six months.
I dont normally work in offices, so I don't know if that one was unusual!

FirefliesintheHydrangeaBushes · 21/07/2025 12:20

2 of the 10 senior partners in my workplace (i.e. local office to that I know well) left their wives for their secretaries both of whom are now middle management in the firm's admin function. In my current place of work it is also well known that the CEO and head of HR are at it and in my previous place of work the head of HR was married to a senior partner (and would tell anyone who would listen how much more powerful HR are than the partners leading the business).

It is absolutely rife and it is quite disgusting. And it is usually the men in the business roles with women with more administrative roles or HR (although in my last firm - huge - it was probably true that in some ways HR had more power than the business leaders).

spoonbillstretford · 21/07/2025 12:22

Being a Coldplay fan? Sadly very common.

Imagine being outed as a fan in that way - ouch.

Oh, am I missing the point? 😅

Last office I worked in a newly married female started an affair with one of the guys who worked outside in the yard. Thing was she was the start of the supply of work down to my section which started for the next day deliveries. 2 of them disappeared for a "rendezvous" one lunchtime and didn't reappear till well after 3 which meant nothing was prepared for next day. My colleagues and I finished at 4 and 2 of the women were going home to young baby's children etc, so they said quite rightly so fuck this we, re not staying on late to sort this. Manage ment appeared to see what was going on and was told we don't know where X is and we finished soon. Total flapping about and begging us to stay late to which we all said no, family commitments etc. They honestly didn't know what to do about when informed what was going on because it was gossip at this stage!!. Crazy thinking back about it now.

Klp122 · 21/07/2025 20:12

It's also very common in sales environments, especially recruitment. When I worked at a high street recruitment agency my first Branch Manager there 'R' (single, very attractive) was shagging at least one married male client. Often going for 'meetings' with him and openly discussing their affair with him on the phone when he called the office. She was eventually sacked.

Her replacement 'J' was also single and extremely attractive (ex model) but also very arrogant and she ended up sleeping with the Permanents Consultant 'D' whose girlfriend 'S' was Branch Manager at a neighbouring branch.

When D split with S he then slept with yet another Branch Manager 'T' one weekend, somehow got her sacked on the Monday and then started a relationship with another consultant 'A' in the same Branch as his ex girlfriend S. J became friends with S but was extremely jealous of A and often made a play for D in front of her.

D and A eventually married but split soon after, and D played a big part in J eventually being sacked.

What a mess!

The Coldplay couple could have so easily styled it out. Stick your arms in the air and wave FFS, not throw yourself on the bloody deck.

Spidey66 · 21/07/2025 20:44

I met my husband at work (nursing) but we were both single and neither of us had had other relationships at work since.

I worked for HM prison services for a couple of years in the 90s where affairs were rampant. Funny how someone mentioned it was common in the police force as well seeing as they’re similar fields.

Interested to know what is it about this man that makes him so irresistible to women!

Legend has it that he has a large appendage. Though he looks a bit like Ratty from wind in the willows so I can’t see the attraction myself. He actually seems like a nice fella until you hear the stories (and I heard them from someone he was close friends with so trust their account).

The prison doesn’t surprise me. Every other week there seems to be a news article about some female prison officer having it off with a male inmate. Makes me wonder about the sort of ignoramuses they employ!

None of this surprises me tbh!

The worst one at my work was an affair that went through a lot of people because of one woman

P and c (married couple-p is male c is female) started together at work

They both caused loads of drama (silly stuff that nobody else would have battered an eye at and loads of wailing about 'my mental health' while ignoring the fact their dramas where affecting everyone else) and trouble, which took up about 90% of the managers attention and we where all fed up with it

C tried it on with p (female) and caused her a lot of trouble when p turned her down (which ended with p leaving because she was scared of c)

C then asked if I'd like to go to bingo with her,off we went and at the end of the night, she demanded I leave my partner of (then) 7 years and move in with her and the kids (p and c where still together at this point)

I laughed, said no and she went apeshit and tried to cause drama for me at work (but I just laughed and she gave up)

Within hours of me turning her down, she'd targeted k (female) and showed up with k on her arm at work a few days later and within days p had moved out of their home and she'd moved k in with endless bragging of their sex life

They moved about as an odd threesome (with the two kids that had been dragged into this) for months and all seemed to be happy with this (I've never seen anything like this-p just seemed to roll over and c just did what she wanted and to hell with everyone else)

Each one would all go on the sick together and we would be grateful as it meant peace but then they'd run out of sick notes, come back and the drama would start up again

After a lot of abuse behind closed doors from the lot of them and k's family,k broke up with her and fled to where p was living with his parents

C went apeshit and started her smear campaign but nobody really cared so she ended up leaving (she did her shift, walked out,put up that she needed her next shift covering and never came back)

A long story short,c has now married another woman and k and p are married with a baby and still work at our place (both claimed they where on maternity but that's run out for him,so he's back-god knows why he thought he could claim on her maternity leave but he tried for as long as he could)

It's the oddest affair I'd ever seen, watching it unfold was unreal and if I was reading this,I'd call bullshit but every word is true

Nowt as queer as folk

Investment banking was the worst I’ve seen. Blokes earning shitloads of money and then shagging their junior colleagues was almost accross the board. Marriage didn’t matter. Then just didn’t care. They would then compare conquests and set challenges with each other to see how many of the female staff they could fuck! Horrible behaviour.

This was in the 90’s/00’s too when blokes were being fuelled by lads mags/drugs and porn.

DelphineFox · 22/07/2025 10:39

I watched a programme about women in the police and they said there's a saying "Join the force, get a divorce."

I remember overhearing a conversation between a few investment bankers recently and they were discussing how utterly anomalous another (also married)! colleague was because he wasn't having an affair with anyone and he never to their knowledge had a ONS or used hookers. The implication was not only was it the norm to do these things but it was so accepted that people did so quite openly

ThisRareFox · 22/07/2025 21:19

One of my managers is having an affair with a younger woman at work. I have been in post a year and noticed something was going on on the first week I was there. He is 57 and she is in her 40’s (married with 2 kids). He has 4 grown up children and has left his wife of 33 years - and divorcing her. My suspicions were confirmed when others started asking if I knew about the love affair going on but now it’s blatantly obvious. They seem to get on well but she has no intention of leaving her husband.

Cutleryclaire · 22/07/2025 21:20

I think it’s really bad that he had to step down. If their work is unaffected then his and her private lives are private.

It's highly unlikely their work was unaffected by it

It's pretty standard in contracts to have to disclose any relationship of this nature.

It's really damaging to governance if two such key figures are having an affair

spottydinosaur · 22/07/2025 22:12

A friend of mine recently attended the wedding of a colleague & it was common knowledge that she was having an affair with someone from the office who also attended her wedding! I wondered how many people sat through that wedding knowing the bride was having an affair. Personally I wouldn’t have attended the wedding.

mamagogo1 · 22/07/2025 22:15

Didn’t an admiral just get sacked for having a relationship with his junior colleague? They take it pretty seriously these days
