Upbeat songs to help the betrayed

I heard the song ‘Who’s David’ by Busted for the first time last year.

It has some great lines. I’m not sure if the lads wrote their own songs but fair play if they did. Okay it’s about a man who’s girlfriend is a cheat but I believe music helps people and it’s upbeat yet poignant.

Extract:
‘Are you sure that you're mine?
Aren't you dating other guys?
'Cause you're so cheap, and I'm not blind
You're not worthy of my time
Somebody saw you sleep around the town
And I've got proof because the word's going around
Don't know you
You left your phone, so I invaded
I hated what I saw
You stupid lying -, who's David?
Some guy who lives next door
So go live in the house of David if you like
But be sure he don't know Peter, John, or Mike’

They were very young when this was written but the line ‘cause your cheap, and I’m not blind, you’re not worthy of my time’ is a cracker in my opinion.

Hope it helps someone. Play it loud 😁.

Anyone else have any suggestions of unusual songs?

Maybe we can all help create an upbeat playlist list for people who are struggling?

I’ve got way too hooked on this and have spent all week trying to to think of a dance banger that fits the bill, and have finally come up with Romeo from basement jaxx

But the tears on the pillow have dried my dear
Gonna let it all go cuz I have no fear

there is also an acoustic chilled version which is lovely.

FairyMaclary · 13/06/2025 17:08

@Beaniebobbins well hopefully someone is dancing away to it this evening and feeling a little happier for a few minutes

Ah I do know it. It’s not my genre but I recognise it - very upbeat! Is it a remix? Good choice

I think the most inspirational and telling you, you are strong, you can do it for you and your kids is Rise up by Andra Day:

You're broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry go round
And you can't find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains
And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you
When the silence isn't quiet
And it feels like it's getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we'll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
Bring it to its feet
And move mountains
And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you
All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
And we will rise
We will rise
We'll rise, oh, oh
We'll rise
I'll rise up
Rise like the day
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousand times again
And we'll rise up
High like the waves
We'll rise up
In spite of the ache
We'll rise up
And we'll do it a thousand times again
For you

its beautiful

I'm feeling really old as I've not heard of the songs in previous posts. I'm also surprised no-one has suggested I will survive by Gloria Gaynor.

Morepaniclessdisco · 14/06/2025 06:05

Truth Hurts - Lizzo - "Why men great, till they gotta be great" Got my friend through a rough break up. Full of sass and self love.

Gives you hell - All American Rejects would be my go to. Stomping sing along chorus.

When you see my face hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
Now where's your picket fence love
And where's that shiny car,
And did it ever get you far?
You've never seem so tense love
I've never seen you fall so hard,
Do you know where you are?
And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying

I think the dance version is the original. I also used to have a radio 1 live lounge version on cd (showing my age) which is very different but I think I actually prefer.

I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor is a classic empowering and upbeat song to get over heartbreak. It’s a 70’s era song but it has endured.

It’s not upbeat but ‘I hate you’ by Frank Skinner and the Rattlesnakes expressed perfectly how I felt about my Ex. Really helps to have your feelings captured exactly in words.

MonaChopsis · 14/06/2025 07:07

Rolling in the Deep, by Adele

I also listened to 'You Gotta Be' by Des'ree... Not specifically relationship focused but kickass all the same.

"Diamonds and Rust" by Joan Baez and "I will survive" by Gloria Gaynor.

I used to play this dance banger after my breakup with a very judgemental ex. Helped. You don't know me by Armand van Helden

Okay another one for metallers

Megadeth - something that I’m not

Your mind tells you that
You've lost your confidence
You're drifting and you don't
Believe in anyone
To lose what little you have
Left to be proud of
Afraid you can't do this again

You said that nothing come in between us
The way of getting things we wanted done
Then enissophobia held you
Under it's influence

Until you compromised your style
Everything about you has been one big charade
What will you do now that the wells run dry?
(Cry?) to sell out all your friends and
Stab them in the back

It's something that you are
It's something that I'm not

When you forced me into doing what you love
Mark my words no one loves you very much
(yeah mark 'em)
And when you tried to change me
And tried to replace me
I couldn't help but end just hating you

Being a fraud can only last so long
(You should know)
Until what you sensed as a child returns
(You little baby)
To choke out the voice that told
You "money and the fame"
Would fill the crater that
You dug for yourself
Unlike you I'm no vision to myself
Lest you forget

You didn't ever make metal, buddy
Metal made you
To crush and run over everyone along the way

It's something that you are
It's something that I'm not

A stranger to yourself
Ha! You pissed me off again
I won't be driven by your needs anymore
What you'd become to do or be

Is clear to see for me
It's something that you are
Something that I'm not

It makes me sick to hear
You say you "love me"
I know you only love what I can do for you
If you were the one that
Was leading the charge
Would you notice if I missed a day or two?
(But that's impossible)

We all laughed at the
Parodies that you'd become
Now your pain slowly paid back has begun
So, accept my resignation
Or in your words "betrayal"
Before it gets much worse
End this self-sabotage

Something I'm not, something that you are
Something I'm not
Something I'm not, something that you are
Something I'm not, something that you are
Something that I'm not yet

D

I forgot about no good (start the dance) by the prodigy. Brings back happy teenage memories, but dodgy grammar aside, is a banger for the betrayed.

Also forgot about good luck by basement jack too. Someone was going through the mill when they wrote that album.
