Upbeat songs to help the betrayed

I heard the song ‘Who’s David’ by Busted for the first time last year.

It has some great lines. I’m not sure if the lads wrote their own songs but fair play if they did. Okay it’s about a man who’s girlfriend is a cheat but I believe music helps people and it’s upbeat yet poignant.

Extract:
‘Are you sure that you're mine?
Aren't you dating other guys?
'Cause you're so cheap, and I'm not blind
You're not worthy of my time
Somebody saw you sleep around the town
And I've got proof because the word's going around
Don't know you
You left your phone, so I invaded
I hated what I saw
You stupid lying -, who's David?
Some guy who lives next door
So go live in the house of David if you like
But be sure he don't know Peter, John, or Mike’

They were very young when this was written but the line ‘cause your cheap, and I’m not blind, you’re not worthy of my time’ is a cracker in my opinion.

Hope it helps someone. Play it loud 😁.

Anyone else have any suggestions of unusual songs?

Maybe we can all help create an upbeat playlist list for people who are struggling?

Happier than ever - Billie Eilish, and the cover by Kelly Clarkson if you need the full belt it out at the top of your lungs heartbreak version.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 08/06/2025 18:44

It isn’t my usual taste but that ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ sing by kelly clarkson is quite upbeat and ‘trick me’ by kelis.

old Friend by rancid is mine.

WillimNot · 08/06/2025 19:52

Would I lie to you by the Eurythmics. Annie's voice is just amazing I'm it.

Legsninetynine · 08/06/2025 19:58

"I will survive" Gloria Gaynor

Some of my favourite empowering songs are:

focus is power - self esteem
weak - skunk anasie
ashes- embrace
shake it out - Florence and the machine
superwoman - Alicia Keyes
conceited - Lola young

i don’t think these songs are specific to cheating or betrayal but maybe apply to any shitty situation that you just have to get through.

I’ve been listening to this song on repeat:

I guess I'm alright, guess I'm alright
I guess I'm doing fine, guess I'm doing fine
D'you think I miss you? D'you think I care?
D'you think I'd lay down and die?

Who’s David is my guilty pleasure - I love to play it loud in the car!

Before He Cheats, Carrie Underwood

This. Absolute classic when belted out at a million decibels. Dickheads, the lot of them.

Beaniebobbins · 09/06/2025 09:56

Some other songs more specifically about cheating:
take a bow Rihanna
hole in the head sugababes
leave (get out) jojo
ego the Saturdays

Monkey Wrench by the Foos.

My exH was an abusive cunt and this resonates.

One last thing before I quit
I never wanted any more
Than I could fit into my head
I still remember every single word you said
And all the shit that somehow came along with it
Still, there's one thing that comforts me
Since I was always caged and now I'm free.

Singing along was very cathartic.

GreenwayHouse · 11/06/2025 12:41

New song from Andy Bell of Erasure and Debbie Harry.

”You said I’d always be in your heart
Your heart’s a liar, liar, liar”

FairyMaclary · 11/06/2025 12:44

Nu-Metal, Korn, Here to Stay

This state is elevating
As the hurt turns into hating
Anticipating all the fucked up feelings again
The hurt inside is fading
This shit's gone way too far
All this time, I've been waiting
Oh, I cannot grieve anymore
For what's inside awaking
I'm not, I'm not a whore
You've taken everything
And, oh, I cannot give any more

Will defo help you connect with your anger

LittleGoldOne · 11/06/2025 12:49

Wretch32 - his n hers. Bit of a uk grime vibe.

butterfly1234 · 11/06/2025 12:55

Beyonce's Lemonade album, especially the song, Middle Fingers Up.

butterfly1234 · 11/06/2025 12:57

Oh, actually, the song is called Sorry, and she sings about sticking middle fingers up 😁

"Middle fingers up, put them hands high
Wave it in his face, tell him, boy bye (sorry)
Tell him, boy bye (sorry) boy bye
Middle fingers up, I ain't thinking 'bout you"

helpmeCalifornia · 11/06/2025 13:02

Oh I had a whole bloody playlist - was a long time ago now but music really really helped.

Yes by McAlmont and Butler has already been mentioned, it's an absolute belter I still love it.

Also Better do Better by Hardfi was a good, angry one -#
"I could not eat for days, I cried so much my face
Has never been the same
And now, now, you're back here with your lies
I hope you realize
You think I'm gonna take you back
You'd better do better than that"

and especially the line - "Your face makes me want to be sick, ah yeah, it's a physical reaction"

I loved a bit of 'Fighter' by Christina Aguilera and 'Survivor' Destiny's Child too
