Bit weirded out by this Clubcard thing

I wonder if anybody is an expert and can help?

I was doing my usual occasional Tesco order-I'm not totally loyal to the store and often shop around - and a couple of things came up on there on the Favourites bit that I certainly haven't bought - one being a bottle of expensive champagne. (We aren't talking Prosecco here)
I can quite clearly reassure myself that I've never bought champagne at Tesco in fact barely drink, certainly not vintage at £50. Could this be a computer error?

Have you ever put a bottle in your basket when booking Xmas home delivery slots, then removed it later?

PenguinChops · 13/04/2025 08:42

Are you suspecting your husband of having an affair and adding bottles of champers to your orders?

otherwise most people would just ignore this

legsekeven · 13/04/2025 08:43

You have put this in relationships so I’m guessing you think it’s your partner. Is there something else you are concerned about

BlondeMummyto1 · 13/04/2025 08:44

Maybe it’s just Tesco trying to push it with Easter coming up.

BobnLen · 13/04/2025 08:46

If you don't use a shop much it's difficult for them to know your preferences, My Waitrose offers are always very tailored to my purchases but DHs are often quite random and what he has never bought because he doesn't shop there much

BobbyBiscuits · 13/04/2025 08:49

Can you not see back on your account what you have actually purchased? I would imagine it's just a marketing thing/advert to push expensive products? If your fella was cheating via the use of expensive champagne he's hardly going to put it through your joint clubcard?

I guess just ask him. If he looks freaked then I guess he could be up to something?

Or he couldn't bought it as a gift for a friend or colleague, maybe someone was leaving work? He bought it using his firm's card, but used the clubcard as well? I don't know but unless he's shifty in general I wouldn't be flying to conclusions.

Well, scrap that, I was thinking Clubcard offers but it's your favourites which is stuff you bought

Empress13 · 13/04/2025 08:53

I would ask him if he’s ever ordered a bottle but I’m guessing there’s more to this story ?

Onelifeonly · 13/04/2025 08:55

I've shopped online at Tescos for years and nothing has ever turned up in my favourites that I haven't ever bought. But they do put in ads for items sometimes. And recently I've noticed that when I go to check out, there will be items in the 'before you checkout' list that I've never bought.

Guess this doesn't help you though!

Wishing14 · 13/04/2025 09:05

I have asked to use someone’s club card to scan if it’s a special offer for club card members and I didn’t have my card (nectar not Tesco) but always a possibility. Just ask bluntly - when did you buy X champagne?

BeachRide · 13/04/2025 09:11

With the Morrisons app, if you click on the item it will give you the date it was last ordered.

jane103 · 13/04/2025 09:13

i'm trying to think now if I have ever put it in my basket, but honestly not an expensive one. I would be the Château Tesco if any of them!. Yeah, you're right that it is making me a bit suspicious about who else uses the club card.

Nominative · 13/04/2025 09:20

Have you ever bought it or anything similar in the store, maybe as a present?

B1indEye · 13/04/2025 09:20

I dont do online shopping but have looked at my favorites on the club card app and can't see anythif that I've never bought. The definition of favourite appears to be anything you've ever bought

Possible that your husband lent his card to someone when there was an offer on the champagne.

Look on the bright side, more points for you 😁(tongue in cheek obvs)

Gardeningdaze · 13/04/2025 09:26

I was able to see the stash of sweets my husband had been buying and not sharing because of this! He couldn't deny it because literally it only comes up if it has been purchased by that account.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 13/04/2025 09:34

The way algorithms work, they suggest to you things that other people who shop "like you" are putting in their basket. With an emphasis on expensive stuff. That'll be all it is.

Much more creepy if you'd been thinking about getting something obscure and your phone starts advertising it at you (happened to me and patio furniture!). Then I realised it was April and everyone would be getting patio furniture!

Napface · 13/04/2025 09:38

I've just been on my account and it says the bananas I usually buy are out of stock so it has suggested I buy lemons instead (???) Could it be something like that?

Silvers11 · 13/04/2025 09:39

Are you sure it wasn't one of the items being 'promoted' by Tesco? I don't shop online with them- but Sainsbury do this all the time. I go into favourites and it always has other suggestions/ads as well. Easy to miss the fact that they aren't your normal purchases if you are in a hurry!

No it’s not just an algorithm with Tesco.

Say I go into store and buy a bag of Harribo and use my club card. That will then appear on my favourites on my online shopping app.

My favourites has obscure stuff I’ve bought in store like a gift bag and a thermos among the stuff I buy online and in store weekly.

OP - you need to ask him. He’s either bought it, or he’s been with someone else who has and has swiped his (your) club card for it.

BerylSnow · 13/04/2025 09:40

LTB. Get your ducks in a row. Etc etc.

Boreded · 13/04/2025 09:40

I feel like this is going to turn into a murder mystery style thread where there are checking of statements for Tesco transactions and calls to Tesco about when the clubcard was used…all to find out that your husband bought the champagne for someone’s retirement gift at work.

posting mostly so I have a reference point for when I last read this. Happy hunting OP

Completely off the topic of the thread but that made me laugh!
I once ordered two dog toys cos i have two dogs and they had none left so they sent me out a six pack of catfood instead. Where oh where do they use their logic?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 13/04/2025 09:48

Is there any chance you or him volunteered your club card to someone at the checkouts who left theirs at home.
I've done this a few times, because the points...
But it means that my favourites bizarrely include cat food, baby snacks and some Asian sauce thing.

cakeandteaandcake · 13/04/2025 09:48

Sainsbury’s lets you manually add favourites and it’s really easy to do it by accident. Does Tesco also have this?
