Bit weirded out by this Clubcard thing

I wonder if anybody is an expert and can help?

I was doing my usual occasional Tesco order-I'm not totally loyal to the store and often shop around - and a couple of things came up on there on the Favourites bit that I certainly haven't bought - one being a bottle of expensive champagne. (We aren't talking Prosecco here)
I can quite clearly reassure myself that I've never bought champagne at Tesco in fact barely drink, certainly not vintage at £50. Could this be a computer error?

I’ve checked my club card and it only has things I’ve purchased on there. There’s a couple of things that I have purchased one for someone else and they’re both on there.

there is also a suggestion section half way through

Letstheriveranswer · 13/04/2025 17:09

Maybe your husband has bought champagne to celebrate a win at his sports weekend?

There is nothing on my Clubcard app that I haven't previously boighty

Katy123g · 13/04/2025 18:50

All of my supermarket favourites lists include very expensive bottles of champagne because I always use them to secure my booking.

This did once backfire when ocado arrived with a bottle of £50 rose champagne and nothing else. I must not have checked out when I did the amendment.

I had to send him on his way with the bottle and an apology 🙈

chattyness · 13/04/2025 18:59

It's just a glitch, you haven't bought or been charged for them. I get odd things I've never bought in my favourites list sometimes. I'm the only one who shops online and I scrutinise my receipts to the last penny.

Stockgirl · 13/04/2025 19:09

Whatever is in your favourites is something you've bought before or put in your basket, it remember's what you ordered.

Stockgirl · 13/04/2025 19:14

You should be able to go on your online clubcard account and download your transactions and see what was purchased.

StumbleInTheDebris · 13/04/2025 19:21

There was a thread quite a while ago the same as this, except it was condoms or something that had appeared in the favourites... wonder how that turned out?

jackiesgirl · 13/04/2025 19:33

Don’t forget he might’ve bought it for you as a surprise and then you’d feel awful for raising it

Ntsurewht · 13/04/2025 19:35

Well I just checked my Tesco account and on Favourites it shows every item I bought in store ! (I don’t do online with Tesco)
I didn’t even know this exists like this, to see all I bought..wow

I remembered this thread but didn't like to post about it and worry OP when there are other possible explanations for what she is asking about

This has always been my fear as I stick a bottle in to secure my booking quite a way in advance sometimes. 😁

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/04/2025 19:51

Sometimes I give my club card to somebody else to use. If I'm shopping with my sister or a friend for instance. Any chance your DH might have done that?

EternallyUnsurprised · 13/04/2025 20:17

I had this recently. Loads of fresh food that I never buy appeared in my favourites. I had to check my club card history but everything on there tallied with my previous shops. So I put it down to tesco pushing new things.

I was just looking at mine and there is a lot of "why not try" trying to push more expensive brands in my list and a lot of substitutes as my usual favourites are out of stock

Well, he's come home, pretty knackered. I think drinking has been going on, and looks very non-plussed and vague about this.

The way algorithms work, they suggest to you things that other people who shop "like you" are putting in their basket. With an emphasis on expensive stuff. That'll be all it is.

Much more creepy if you'd been thinking about getting something obscure and your phone starts advertising it at you (happened to me and patio furniture!). Then I realised it was April and everyone would be getting patio furniture!

If it’s in “favourites” it’s been purchased before.

What you have suggested could be recommended products? I have shopped at Tesco for longer than I care to remember and like another poster said, everything that appears in my “favourites” is something I’ve purchased before.

I think I would be too if my partner accused me of cheating because Tesco suggested they might want to buy champagne.

jane103 · 13/04/2025 22:38

I didn't ask him about cheating, I don't know what you're on about

Does the club card account not have details of previous purchases then?

I think a bottle of champagne is entirely different from condoms, so not saying it's anywhere near as dodgy-looking!

CuriousGeorge80 · 13/04/2025 23:53

I’ve bought champagne before that my DP wouldn’t know about, it was a gift for somebody at work. I’ve also bought other alcohol when going to dinners etc. that she wouldn’t know about. Not because any of these things are a secret but because life happens. I’m not sure this is really very suspicious!

LunaDeBallona · 14/04/2025 00:24

It will just be a glitch.
I am only ‘allowed’ to put one particular fruit tray in my basket.
i put one in and I get a message saying I have reached the maximum for this group of products.
I’ve phoned customer service who haven’t got a clue why it’s happening and neither have the IT dept.
Drives me mad - it’s fruit ffs, not drugs!
These glitches do happen. I had beetroot in my ‘your last order’ just before Christmas - never ordered beetroot in my 15 years of deliveries.

Reddog1 · 14/04/2025 08:07

My money is on “workplace gift” or scanning for a random shopper who wants the CC discount (I’ve been asked to do that a few times in the Tesco Metro near work).

4forksache · 14/04/2025 08:18

If you really have reason to be suspicious then ring Tesco and ask them
