Is my husband getting ready to cheat?

Hopee25 · 04/04/2025 12:06

Title says it all really, I was just browsing on our computer and in our history i found these BBC articles my husband was reading about one by one? Then moving onto CASH iSA articles? I just can’t get it out of my head, why would these articles be interesting to him?

A little back story,

We have been together for 15 years, we are currently expecting our 2.child, I’m 7 months pregnant. My husband lost his job a couple of months ago. Then he lost his father. He is rather depressed about life overall. Still I can’t find a reason why these articles would be interesting to him? Please someone tell me am I overreacting?

I read these articles, it's click bait, no intention or plans to act. Pure curiosity. Isa stuff, never bad to be informed about money.

Who just browses the internet history?

Someone who, possibly correctly, suspects their spouse might be gearing up to cheat, if they haven’t already.

I’m totally lost as to why this means he’s getting ready to cheat. I look at all manner of random things. Surely we all do?

If somebody looked at my history of reading news articles with this sort of attitude, they'd probably conclude I was a fraud committing, world travelling mass murderer.

Oeople read news articles because they find them interesting, not because they want to reproduce whatever is written about in the article.

Just going to post the same!

TheGhostOfPatButcher · 04/04/2025 15:57

Just looked at my own history. From that you'd definitely think I'm planning to buy a coffee machine, paint my front door and I'm into The Waltons in a big way. I'm not!

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 04/04/2025 15:58

I would in all honesty assume these have been random clicks. Much like us on Mumsnet. I click and comment on some random stuff. Ask him about it

Chewbecca · 04/04/2025 15:59

My search history is shocking, but it's all mumsnet's fault. Some of these threads send me on a tangent.

Same here!!

Pinkerama · 04/04/2025 16:05

I don’t think his search history on its own points to cheating. Based on that, people might think I’m training to be a serial killer when I just like true crime podcasts and research the cases I hear about.

Are there any other concerning signs? E.g. suddenly very secretive and on his phone a lot / changed passcode / doesn’t leave it out of sight, started working out, dressing better, is more concerned about his appearance, snappy and short tempered or extremely affectionate towards you

I have read all about Ashley madison ! I often go down rabbit holes 😂 I spent an entire evening after watching call the midwife researching breach births I have and never plan to be pregnant 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly this 🤣! He’s read the 1st article and ended up in a rabbit hole as the BBC presents you with previous articles. I’ve also read about Ashley Maddison and watched the documentary……..I am not planning on cheating, nor am I concerned about my profile being leaked!

@Stagshear he is big on privacy, always been. (Works for financial crime) just thought it was very odd, not sure if if I’d have clicked on it, maybe if the article was titled “are women really more unfaithful than men) . 🫣

If he works for financial crime I can see why he'd read these, I don't think this is at all any sign of potential cheating

nadine90 · 04/04/2025 16:23

If this is the only thing that’s making you suspicious, I wouldn’t think anymore of it. I read all sorts of crap online. Once you’ve looked at one thing, the algorithm will just keep throwing similar stuff at you.
Whatever made you look in the first place is what you should be paying attention to.

Shitmonger · 04/04/2025 16:28

Those are old articles from 10-13 years ago. They wouldn’t have been suggested for him so he had to go looking for them. It’s a bit odd.

DevonMum123 · 04/04/2025 16:32

Start noticing if he is buying new clothes, working out more than usual. Takes his mobile with him and won't leave it just lying on the table when leaving the room.
Those are tells, rather than reading news articles.

This 100%. The stuff I look up, especially after joining Mumsnet, is enough to get me side eye from the worst of society.

It's of no importance.

MissLC · 04/04/2025 16:43

To be fair, I think I've read all of those articles as they cascade on to each other at the bottom of the articles. I found them just an interesting read and have absolutely no intentions of cheating on my husband. I don't think he'd even think he would think I was if he saw those in my history.

Cheepcheepcheep · 04/04/2025 16:48

I'm a proper rabbit hole reader. Yesterday I wound up reading all about Angellica Bell and Michael Underwood and somehow wound up reading their companies house data about their business interests.

I promise I have absolutely no interest in stalking Angellica Bell and Michael Underwood (did you know he's a teacher now? And I never knew she was married before him!)

I wouldn't necessarily assume anything OP, just that he was thinking about the Ashley Maddison stuff and read up a bit on it.

Deckedoutside · 04/04/2025 16:55

I Google quite literally anything that pops into my head. A train of random nonsense. I could have watched a show with an affair and then thought about that site and googled to have a reread of the scandal.

Mumrun25 · 04/04/2025 17:00

There's a show on Netflix. I actually did the exact same Google search after seeing it on Netflix - relatively recently. Could he just have been looking it up out of interest - after seeing it advertised on Netflix- or watching the show?

BumpedmyElbow · 04/04/2025 17:01

I watched a documentary about docking dogs ears and unscrupulous breeding today. My Google history is all about how to dock ears, how many litters I can breed without a license and what breed will make me the most money. I have never had a dog, have no intention of getting a dog, let alone starting a sideline in breeding them and I would rather chew off my own arm than cut off an innocent little puppy's ears! HTH

Sidebeforeself · 04/04/2025 17:06

Well I clicked on this thread… doesn’t mean I’m planning to cheat either

ZippyPeer · 04/04/2025 17:08

Agree with previous posters - the stuff he's looked at has no meaning on his own. The key thing id take from this is that when you intrude on your partner in this way you end up feeling upset and confused.

Try and find a way to let it go and don't look again

Beeloux · 04/04/2025 17:18

I wouldn’t worry too much. I’ve been single for years and often click on random articles like these ones.

TinyGingerCat · 04/04/2025 17:25

Why are you looking at his browsing history? If he works in financial crime and is big into privacy don't you think he'd make sure his browsing history wasn't saved if he was searching stuff he didn't want you to see. I'd be really cross if my DH went through my search history as I'm also a real rabbit hole searcher. It's a very strange conclusion for you to leap to. The cash ISA could be where he wants to put any redundancy payment and the Ashley Maddison stuff could be because he watched the documentary on Netflix. My search history is currently full of stuff about people on MAFS, Yotam Ottolengi recipes, tax efficient investment and true crime.

AppleCelebration · 04/04/2025 17:35

I am sure the Ashley madison breach appears in the website have i been.pwned

chuck his email in it and see

ZebedeeDougalFlorence · 04/04/2025 17:39

Is he a novelist (or aspiring novelist) doing research for his next opus? If not, he has cheating on his mind.
