BV help

Finallyfound2025 · 10/02/2025 14:24

Im going out of my mind thinking there must be some help out there for this?
Iv been with my partner almost a year and in most of that time iv had BV and also UTIs, iv since found out the UTIs cause the BV, we have a very good sex life, pretty much daily and i know its definatly his cum that is the cause bcos when either him or I have been away/apart i have no issues.
Drs have given me long term antibiotics for UTI and apart from metro (currently taking 2nd course in 3 months) they are saying no long term help for the BV..i wouldnt need the long term antibiotics for the UTI if the BV would stay away though??
Iv tried every single over the counter pessary and gel, but i cant keep on like this forever.. all STI test etc are coming back clear.

My partner said he is willing to take the antibiotics if the drs prescribe them for him (he doesnt like taking any tablets at all) BUT drs etc wont treat men for BV

I do all the usual thinks of advice, shower/wash after, wee, no soaps ect im really just at the end of my teather and this week have felt so low and down to the point where i am actually thinking about ending the relationship so any advice would be amazing
Thank you

had this with certain partners, decided it was my body’s way of rejecting them! With other men, totally fine…

sorry no practical advice because I got rid of the men in question 😂

Wish it would have with certains ones before x

I suppose bcos there such strong antibiotics, he just doesnt take tablets at all to be honest.
And he had been to his GP, he said if his gp said yes it will work and help he would but his gp has told him they wont as it doesnt effect men, although we have both read it COULD, im sure you know what i mean by that x

What a sexist stand these doctors are taking. Do doctors say the same to women patients when contact with their vaginas / vulvas is making their male partner’s penis painful / itchy / scarred / suppurating, and where treatment of these women protects their man from it, I am curious to know and can’t think of any examples where they do.

You are getting a horrible illness / condition as a consequence of having sex with him. And treating him will very likely make you better.

Sex is something you both enjoy that brings you together but that currently has serious consequences

So far it’s all been on you to make this condition better. Now it’s his turn.

Say to him that you are going to have a longer period of abstinence from sex. During which he can try the antibiotics, which may take a few days to work. If he cares about your sex life and about you, he will take them (you don’t need to tell him this - he should be aware enough to realise it). Then when you next try again, you will have ruled out one more avenue, and hopefully will have no more problems.

CucumberBagel · 10/02/2025 18:50

I've been suffering from this but don't have sex. Tried antibiotics twice, first time it worked then came back, second time no help at all. Pessary gel burns my urethra (yes, I am putting it in the right hole Grin), no idea what to do now. Taken prebiotics for "intimate health" but nothing changing. I feel your pain.

Catoo · 10/02/2025 19:04

This happened to me with the Mirena and I had never had BV or UTI before. After it was removed no more issues (same partner, he was a bit cheaty though).

Is your partner showering thoroughly? Are you having a wee straight afterwards? I found the balance active gels could stave off the BV if I used it overnight after having sex.

Hope it gets better 💐

I fully agree with you here. I am going to see what happens when this course finishes and if it comes back im going to give him no choice, i feel like its my only option at the moment and like you say if nothing else it will rule it out

There's probiotics that are specifically for women and they improve vaginal Health

alwaysrunninglate163 · 10/02/2025 21:23

Have you tried a vaginal probiotic? Has been very effective for similar issues I've put down to the coil.

I use the Better Vits ones, don't just buy any, do some proper research as for a probiotic to be effective in that area it needs specific strains.

Toooldtorave · 10/02/2025 22:13

TipsyJoker · 10/02/2025 14:48

Make him wear a condom. Also, you need to look into increasing your good bacteria. When you take antibiotics they kill the bad bacteria but also kill the good bacteria. Start taking prebiotics and probiotics. It might take a while to build up good bacteria again, (which will keep the bad bacteria in check) but it’s well worth a try and will actually improve your overall health. Also, there’s evidence that inserting a tampon with natural yoghurt with probiotics can be used to encourage good bacteria growth.

Yes! It’s the ph of jizz that knocks out the nice ph of your vagina which causes the bv. Had this with ex partner and we also had a several times every day habit too. Condoms will help massively. The gels and pessaries you can buy for Bv will only help if you’re preventing the agravator from getting in there in the first place.

And you can get probiotics to insert internally to help restore the good flora.

gamerchick · 10/02/2025 22:18

Condoms.

seven201 · 10/02/2025 22:26

Canesflor is a vaginal probiotic worth trying.

I'm curious as to why you're not trying condoms if you're at the point of considering breaking up. I get they're annoying, but surely they're better than this!

You could try fluomizin it got rid of my AV and then after the course treat with vagibiome. This was the best vaginal probiotic I could find as it has lactobacillus crispatus and it is more likely to work than oral probiotics.

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems. Also sorry to jump on your post but I seem to struggle so much with my ph balance. Semen sets off thrush and bv but then so does condoms! Anyone else still suffering even if using condoms? I'm wondering if the latex isn't great so will try non latex 🙈 v frustrating

OldChairMan · 11/02/2025 19:58

Is he reluctant to use condoms? As that seems such an obvious and easy thing to try, but you say you haven't.

OldChairMan · 11/02/2025 20:06

These pro/prebiotics were recommended by a gynaecologist. They deliver to the UK or you can buy them on iHerb:

ora.organic/en-gb/products/gb-probiotics-for-women

These are also regularly recommended for while on ABs:

EarthSight · 11/02/2025 20:14

You'll have to use condoms, and he should ave suggested that before now. Something like Canesflor might work, but they're very expensive to be used like this routinely. Neither of you should be on regular anti-biotics if there's another way to avoid this.

Willweeverfindout · 11/02/2025 21:47

Do you have a coil @Finallyfound2025? I had recurrent BV, decided to take out the coil and haven’t suffered since. I probably made this up but I was convinced the bad bacteria were managing to hang round it. No idea if it was right, but it seemed to work.

Yep same here.

I went through a period of having UTI's every few weeks. I was honestly on my knees with it. Eventually after much research and frustration someone recomended I try Cysticlean. I bought it from a company called VictoriaHealth.

https://victoriahealth.com/cysticlean-240mg-pac-30-capsules/

Anyway miracle of miracles they actually seemed to stop me getting them. They do something that stops the bacteria sticking to the wall of your urethra.

My mum got plagued by UTI's in her seventies (not from sex like mine) and she found they stopped hers too.

Can't guarantee they will work for you (Dmannose did not work for me) but it must be worth a shot.

I didn't seem to get BV at the same time although I have had BV from time to time so obviously a bit different from you but still worth a try I reckon.

Best of luck. I remember the frustration of getting ill again and again and not being able to stop them.

When you’ve had STI screening, have you been tested for trichomoniasis (TV)? It causes a similar smell to BV but can also cause UTI symptoms. I only ask as it’s not routinely tested for on all STI screens, and men are not usually screened for TV unless they have a female partner who has tested positive for it.

Could of course be plain old BV, but worth checking.

No dont worry, if you can pick up any help from this thats great, i cant help with the condom part but maybe some of the other suggestions might help you also

Thank you i will definatly look at this as at the moment im on 1 a day antibiotics for UTI but from what iv read online its the BV causing them , but this might be better than antibiotics
