I hope Michelle is okay. If she's missed 2 huge events where she was expected (I understand her absence at Trump's inauguration), the only logical explanation for me is that she was too unwell to attend or had important hospital treatment appts. So I hope she is fine.

Sad if they're divorcing but I can't see that yet.

She looked pretty fit and healthy (glowing, even) when she was out on the campaign trail in November.

I think, because she's not a politician, she's able to to act her conscience and refuse to be in the same room as the orange idiot.

Ooh why so many so het up on here defending Obama …who knows? Anything is possible in the US of A !

Odd she wasn’t at the Jimmy Carter funeral…

She is supposedly thinking about putting herself forward as a candidate in the future presidential elections, so by not attending the inauguration of Trump was not a good move, if that was the case. She might not like him, but if you’re a world leader, you can’t stamp your feet, at least publicly, when something happens that you don’t like. Just look at David Lammy and how his mouth has created a pretty awkward situation with Trump for when he visits with him. Always behave with dignity and decorum in public. But think what you like in the privacy of your own head.

Like them or not, no one has consistently behaved with more dignity and decorum than the Obamas. Particularly considering the things Trump has said about them (look up birtherism).

Where do you see that she's thinking about putting herself forward as a candidate? I'd be thrilled if she did, but I've only ever seen her say that she's not interested, although I'm sure there's been pressure on her to reconsider.

As I understand it, she's ruled it out.

Michelle Obama is usually more gracious than that. I can see missing the inauguration as it's all about Trump but not Jimmy Carter's funeral where she could easily ignore him. I still feel she may be unwell to have missed the latter.

That's how people speculated about Kate and it turned out she had cancer. I'm just hoping MO is okay.

Marriumph · 26/01/2025 16:08

I hope she doesn't run for office; Politics is a dirty game, you'll have to soil yourself a little or a lot to make it to the top. Compromises must be made. Better she maintains her dignity because they'd (those calling her a man, etc) crucify her even more if she runs.

What is your problem? Everyone is on the thread speculating on an affair and I've given a different opinion that she could be unwell. That's it. Not sure why you seem to have latched onto me like I've made an outlandish claim. No one here knows what's going on, obviously.Confused

I haven't "latched on" to you. I have no problem. I'm just joining in the discussion. 🙍

She was married to a former president. If she had seen her husband compromise his integrity and it didn't sit well with her, she would probably have left him? By association with him, she is accepting dirty politics, and if her marriage is a strong one, clearly doesnt let it bother her.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 26/01/2025 17:47

That's how people speculated about Kate

Indeed it was and nearly one year on it would have been nice if we'd learn from it about the unnecessary hurt and stress that speculation caused and also that we don't have the right to know anything about anybody else's health or their marriage. No matter how much in the public eye they may be.

StarkleLittleTwink · 26/01/2025 17:48

For heaven’s sake, who gives a fu%# anyway? The DM is full if sh%#. Everyone knows that.

Yes, very good point.

As I understand it, she's ruled it out.

She ruled it out over the last few years only because she’s been putting herself behind Biden and Harris, so obviously didn’t want to detract from their campaign to remain in office. But I think with calls increasing for her to put her name out there, that she may take the baton. There is literally no-one else who appears to be interested and popular enough to run for the Democrats next time round.

Four years is a long time in politics. Very few people outside of Illinois knew of Barack Obama before he addressed the DNC in 2004.

And to be fair, although I like her a lot, a fair amount of her popularity is because she hasn't had to deal with the dirtiness and ugliness of a presidential campaign. I guarantee it would be a different story from the minute she announced. If she's got an exploratory committee going, it's very much on the dl.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 26/01/2025 18:18

Yes, they're in quite the nadir. However, she has said no and I'm not sure that she will run, However, never say never.
