I gave up on the Guardian years ago when I realised how left wing it is.

You realised, you mean you didn't know before you started reading it? I'm almost 75 and I know it has always been moderately left wing.

It's a good newspaper though, far better than many. However I do question articles like the one posed here. I don't buy a paper now but do read some of each online. I've noticed a tendency for the broadsheets to emulate the tabloids a bit these days, trying to attract new readers I suppose. Thd Indy is the worst for that by far but they all seem to have a go. It must be something to do with the decline in sales, most people get their news online.

The drawing is odd. Why are the man's trunks the same colour in the reflection, but the woman's bikini is different, and she's got her hair loose? If it's meant to represent their 'multiverse' you'd expect both reflections to be different.

I think the cartoon shows him with his wife and also him with his affair partner.

He sounds smug and nasty, she sounds deluded.

I gave up on all newspapers years ago when I realised that there is more to life than reading half-baked, half-invented utter claptrap every day.

I took it as one was him with his wife and the other with Viviana?

WillowTit · 08/12/2024 16:42

but it is still a dirty secret

Cattenberg · 08/12/2024 16:45

Isn't it a bit narcissistic, this idea that you/your relationship are so special that the laws of the universe don't apply to you?

"Sebastian and Viviana" oh please, they're probably really called Beryl and Colin. Breathing one another's essence in Milton Keynes. Ugh!

I actually feel quite sick after that, rather as if I had overdosed on cheap syrup.

CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo · 08/12/2024 16:49

YUK! yuckity yukyuk

thisoldcity · 08/12/2024 16:52

If it's true, I hope his wife reads it and somehow recognises the pretentious and smug style of 'Sebastian' and takes a look at his phone. Poor woman. I hope the move 300 miles away was to somewhere she knows people.

Bananalanacake · 08/12/2024 16:56

I used to buy it every Saturday when I was single and lived in London for the exhibitions guide that was in the Guide supplement, it listed all the small exhibitions that weren't well known. My friend who still gets it tells me they don't do this anymore,

"Viviana and I have a keen interest in theoretical physics and the concept of the multiverse helps us" – I snorted coffee at this. Whatever wilful misunderstanding helps you sleep at night, mate🙄

Edited

Gladdens my heart to see how many people have called out this particularly awful sentence. I wonder if he used a robust explanation of string theory to talk her into anal?

UndeniablyGenX · 08/12/2024 17:25

@MrsMitford3 @Winesoup Ah, I see - I was thrown by the women looking identical bar bikini hue and hairstyle.

feellikeanalien · 08/12/2024 17:37

What a load of (made up) shite!

NewGreenDuck · 08/12/2024 17:48

The problem is that, knowing some of the other stuff they print, it probably isn't made up. Terribly earnest people, trying to be profound and just looking like pratts. It's like lots of the stuff in that paper.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 08/12/2024 18:00

His poor wife.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 08/12/2024 18:00

If it's true that is.

Sebastian is an utter wanker.
