Member of Facebook dating group

My husband and I were at an event and I was posting photos on his Facebook (I’m not on Facebook). I noticed in his groups one was ‘Facebook dating’. As far as I could see he was a member and there were 90k+ members and 2 chats that were fully subscribed that he wasn’t part of. I asked him why he was part of a Facebook dating group and he said he has no idea. Swore on our sons life.

I have absolutely no idea how Facebook works (came off it 5 years ago) so I don’t know how these things work. Would he have had to request to join the group? Would he have had to set up a profile to join it? It said private group so I don’t even know

the fact you’re doing doubting him and asking mumsnet would indicate there may be something of a backstory as to why you don’t trust his word on this?

He allows you full access to his facebook?

Would appreciate my question just being answered. Just came across it on his phone and since I don’t use Facebook and, given the nature of it, was looking advice.

We were at an event and he was up speaking and my phone was dead so I was using his phone to take pictures and post

Maybe the group wasn’t originally called Facebook Dating? I’m in a few groups and the admins change the names from time to time. I can’t think what Facebook Dating might have been though.

I’m assuming though it’s changed to something of the same nature that reflects the group? Like he’s a member of some groups to do with his hobby which would expect but not a private Facebook dating group.

No he didn’t ask me to post. It was a big event where he was one of the main speakers so I was posting because of that and a picture of us I took before the event because it was a big deal for him

you took a photo and took it upon yourself to post to his Facebook account despite fact he hasn’t asked you too 🤔

I think it's a new service, it came up on my Facebook yesterday, I only look at FB once a year on my Birthday and it was a group and I was in it. I asked my partner if he had it, he just uses Marketplace and he had it too. I don't think it's anything sinister. We both just left it.

Was he definitely a member and it wasn’t just popping up on the page as a “join group” - I get lots of random / irrelevant things pop up? Also if you can click on the group (if he is member) the page transparency thing will show if there had been name changes of the group

And you should be able to see when he was a member since - if you have access still ?

no on the way home I asked him about it and then left it. Was definitely private group. I had to click on it to leave it.
