I desperately need some "stick it to em" end of relationship songs.

My husband of 26 years (together 34) has had an affair and I've talked about this in threads last week. Now what I need is some really strong songs that I can belt out to lift my spirits. So far I have:
Flowers - Miley Cyrus
What a fool believes - The doobie brothers
(possibly) Good Thing - FYC

Please could I have more.

"I never really loved you anyway" The Corrs

Boredmum24 · 26/06/2024 23:16

I was just about to post the same

Boxina · 26/06/2024 23:16

Not specially relationship focused, but Get the Fuck Out by Skid Row is very cathartic to sing along to.

the2andahalfmillion · 26/06/2024 23:35

Such a rich seam of music here although I am sorry about your dickhead ex :(

it depends what stage of the process you are at. If it is sheer unbridled anger then i third Martha Wainright’s bloody mother fucking asshole, such a great song, as is Kelis’s ‘Caught out there’ and ‘Fuck you’ by Kate Nash, funny how such similar mentions came up here :)

Kill Bill by SZA is a vibe even if the lyrics are slightly murderous.

If you’re still really emotional and need a good cry then try Johnny Cash’s Hurt, great maudlin song but actually about IV drug use. The sentiment of being in the thrall of something harmful is quite applicable though.

Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to black’, obviously, as well.

Goyte’s ’Somebody that I used to know’ is a good acknowledgement of hurt but also slapping down the offender.

The following are not breakup songs, but they are telling an asshole off songs, which I found more satisfying than breakup songs when I broke up with my asshole ex. Breakup songs tend to have the heartbroken element which, in my experience, just leads to wallowing in the pain.

Ha Ha You're Dead by Green Day.
Dickhead by Miles Betterman
No More Fucks To Give by Thomas Benjamin
Santaria by Sublime

When I was breaking up with my ex, I was having a bit of an emotional breakdown because of his continued lying and emotional abuse. One time I found myself sitting in the ground, rocking back and forth and singing Santaria like a nutcase. 😄

I hope you die, the bloodhound gang

A great choice. It makes you laugh, which helps when you are in pain.
I know somebody who was actually singing it in her sleep and her soon to be ex MIL heard her. 😄

biscuitandcake · 27/06/2024 02:29

Best friends wedding by the Chicks. Actually a lot by them: not ready to make nice (not written about a break up but applicable), Goodbye Earl...

Isitsixoclockalready · 27/06/2024 07:43

Yeah, you can't beat a bit of "You Oughta Know" for these situations.

Nomdejeur · 27/06/2024 07:44

Shut up- Black eyed peas

OnlyHerefortheBiscuits · 27/06/2024 07:55

Brave - Sara Bareilles
So much more than this - Grace VanderWall
Let it go - Natasha Beddingfield
(I'm a) Perfect 10 - Unknown brain Heather Sommer

Dont underestimate the impact of a strong bass line generally on motivation.

Oh, and turn it up. X

yarnwitch · 27/06/2024 09:31

Austin (boots stopped workin) by Dasha. Great song if they were a flaky liar!
F.U.R.B by Frankee.

PiningForTheFjordz · 27/06/2024 09:32

No more tears (enough is enough) - Barbra Streisand/Donna Summer.

CleanShirt · 27/06/2024 09:34

Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs. Watch the live version on YouTube to see Stevie Nicks staring an absolute hole through Lindsay Buckingham.

BlueCupOrangeCup · 27/06/2024 09:36

So this is one for when you just want to sit and cry (vs. defiantly rising from the ashes)

Tin Man by Miranda Lambert 💔

DoingJustFine · 27/06/2024 09:45

This is my favourite genre of music.

A little-known one is this Eurovision song from Slovenia in 2011. It’s one of my favourite feisty belters. She is a badass!

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 27/06/2024 09:48

Thank you everyone. I am going to make a new playlist out of these!
