I went to Greece at the beginning of April after a horrible marriage separation. I went away for a week while my ex was moving out.

It was just what I needed: peaceful and nurturing. Two days into the holiday, me and some friends talked to some men at a bar in the very small local town. One of them seemed pretty keen on me, which was a shock after many years in a sexless marriage. We didn't speak the same language, though, so we couldn't really converse. At one point, he followed me to the toilet and asked for my social media account, and as I was a bit drunk and flattered, I gave it to him.

Me and my friends went to dinner at the restaurant next door and after 15 minutes I realised he and his friend were there, and he was staring at me all the time. We didn't speak there and I left. When I got home I had a load of messages from him saying he wanted to meet up. I didn't really fancy him and was amused and flattered, but I wasn't going to.

Then, near the end of the holiday, I thought, why not have an inconsequential one-night stand? So we went on a date, using Google Translate the whole time😂The sex was amazing though, and we had a really nice time. I left the next day and he came to the boat to say goodbye, which was sweet but a bit cringe.

What's completely mad is that he's been texting and calling me every day since. I don't know what's going on. Why am I still in touch with him? Where's it going? What is he getting out of it?

He talks as if we're together and I will be coming back to the island soon, even though I've said I can't. I've never had a holiday fling before so it's all a bit weird. Any thoughts appreciated

Don't be flattered. That's love bombing. It's creepy and indicative of narcissist psychopath. Don't wait around for the mask to fall off and the red flags to pile up.

Hi there!
So, I m Greek. I understand the guy is Greek. And yes OP this is the way they behave 😄. They chase you A LOT! They are good in bed and very passionate. And after they get you….oh well…I won’t go there.
By the way many Greeks have a lot of money and own property especially If they come from an island. Don’t know the guy of course. But I do know that they chase the woman a lot and you being British is something different so there you go :). I think If not interested just stop responding. He will move on. But If you fall for it be prepared.
Personally I am fed up with Greeks/Meditteraneans and looking for a nice British gentleman.

Edited

Greek here too and yes, some Greek men just love the chase!

I remember being early 20s (and very naive...) and meeting a guy through my mum's work. I thought he was nice and we were having a friendly chat. We exchanged numbers, next thing I know he is texting and phoning me every day and he suggested we go out for a beer.

In my head at the time I saw it as the start of a friendship. I realised at the end of the night we went for a beer that he saw it as a date when he suddenly started holding my hand when we went for a walk around town.

I ran a mile after that night! Nice enough guy to have a laugh with but definitely not boyfriend material. He told me on that 'date' that he had cheated on his ex with his female best friend!

He kept texting and calling me after that night wanting to see me, trying to arrange a weekend away for the two of us and saying that he will come and see me when I went back to my Uni town after summer break.

Just to add I married a Brit in the end Grin

Christ if the sexes were reversed here imagine the flaming the OP would be getting. Older man using a younger woman to pump up his ego after a bad break-up, exploitative, etc. etc.

Gold digger is a really sexist term.

SamW98 · 28/05/2024 12:32

Seriously rolling my eyes at the thought of a young Greek guy having no strings sex with an older British woman is after a passport ffs.

Hes from an EU country with pretty open borders, he’s not a war torn refugee.

Ohhhj @BreeTown welldone.
I married my Greek who OF COURSE after 20 years he cheated on me. 😂

Back when I arrived to the UK I was used to Greek/Italian men chasing and being all over you, therefore I perceived British men subtle flirting and shyness as lack of interest. I now realise that this is not the case. They are just more subtle and shy. I do like their gentleman ways.
I would be keen to go for a British tbh. Much calmer, polite and civilised.
Only issue I find is that they may not feel comfortable with feelings and take too long to open up.

I'm from a mediterranean country very close to Greece and find the English men -in general-cold, repressed, emotionally constipated and emotionally handicapped, that's why they drink so much. Give me Dimitri and with a GF in Athens any time. Plus he's tanned.

Sorry to hear that, you're better off with an English man because they don't cheat 😂

OneLemonOrca · 28/05/2024 13:20

you shouldn’t have done that to him you used him

@beatrix1234 ”Dimitri” will only be tanned and handsome and passionate the first few months. Then expect a belly, baldness, couch, saliva, souvlakia, a lot of frappe coffee, sitting on the sofa moaning all day and asking you to bring him food/coffee/iron his shirt etc. AND 99.9999% he will cheat on you 😂.
Med and Latin guys are ok for short term fun but I have started to believe that they are not marriage material. Entitled and looking for another “mom” (and chef/cleaner/nanny/psychotherapist etc).

That's funny, I'm mediterranean myself (but live in the UK) and my personal experience is the above cliche applies more to English men (looking for a mom, chef/cleaner/nanny/free sex worker etc..) . I also see English women get a bit afraid of the "intensity" of the mediterranean men, they're not used to that and will get easily overwhelmed. Cultural differences.

No idea. Maybe it’s universal with some cultural differences 😂.

However….I have heard very positive feedback about the Dutch…time to move to Amsterdam 😄

Who said he was younger? Not me. Someone replying made up a lot of details themselves based on their prejudices about foreign men.

OP, in my opinion you are overthinking.
you came out of a long marriage
you had great sex with a Med guy
he probably wants to keep in touch in case you repeat
so, keep in touch and have fun and If you want repeat.

LegsLil · 28/05/2024 21:25

Thanks, @Rania78 . You got me! I am a terrible overthinker

They will say anything and sleep with anyone from the U.K. as you are the golden ticket to access them coming to the U.K.

He will flatter you and give you a load of old fake compliments to turn your head.

I know lots of Greeks and none of them have shown an interest in moving to the uk.

The British Passport is no longer sought after as this country is a mess with foul weather to boot !
Id happily swap mine for an EU passport.

If a Greek wants to live in the uk there are easier ways than trying to dupe someone into marriage lol.
You don’t automatically gain rights to a passport just by sleeping with someone.

CandyLeBonBon · 28/05/2024 21:57

I spent a lot of time in Greece when I was younger! This is what Greek men are like! Lots of fun for a no strings fling but I would chalk it up to a fun holiday memory and move on!

I agree with this ^
Don’t take it too seriously. Chat if you want to maintain a friendship.
There is no harm in that and you live miles apart..
Block if you don’t want to do this.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/05/2024 22:16

Is that you Shirley?

SheepAndSword · 28/05/2024 22:28

What is @specialityrasp on about?? So many deletions!

@LegsLil you can end it really nicely - just say you enjoyed meeting him but you're back to your normal life now. It sounds like a positive experience after a marriage breakdown.

I want to go on holiday now, it's been grey and drizzly last few days ☹️
