Mine is the opposite. My son has a temper because of my uncle and my daughter is stubborn because of my mother.

Oh yes....all the time...its the nature v nurture debate. My pil and mother and father firmly take the 'nature' its all in the genes and to attribute any plus/negative point to vague family member, whereas me and dh take the 'nature' line...never shall the twain meet

stoppinattwo · 27/03/2008 19:37

of course DS gets his footballing skills from me .........I have booted a ball or two in my time

DD ponces about like DP...........she takes after him

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 27/03/2008 19:38

My MIL is blunt to the point of being rude...

I just noticed that DD has a bit of a turned in leg when she walks and when she was visiting asked her if she noticed - she said, 'WEll, you weren't affected by a turned in leg were you?'

She asked DH on the phone this weekend why all of her grankids don't look like her ...

I feel soooo wanted.....

this thread title sums up my MIL too, it made me laugh! although its mostly dh's brother who the kids take after if they have any positive qualities..(the favoured older son who had no kids but ours keep on "taking after" him...)

claricebeansmum · 27/03/2008 19:41

Absolutely.

Since DC were born MIL attributes every positive thing to her side of the family. I have had no genetic imput into my DC.

Fimbo · 27/03/2008 19:42

My dd got the highest score in her dance class for a recent ballet exam.

Quote from my mother:-

"It's just in her, she gets it from me you know"

Err no. You did Highland Dancing not ballet and not from the age of 3 like dd.

lalalonglegs · 27/03/2008 20:03

My ds had a poo in the bath two days ago which apparently is just what my mil's ds2 did 35 years ago: "Oh, he does remind me of him."

Keeps reassure me that dc3, due any day, will fit in fine - her dc3 did because they'd just had central heating fitted. Eh?

cornsilk · 27/03/2008 20:05

Dh's MIL seems to think I'm not related to my chn at all the way she goes on.

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 20:06

my kids all look like longlost relatives on dh mother's side

"oh it's the hairline/ chin/ whatever"

it is my hairline you eejit

look at my head it is right in front of you

Lizzylou · 27/03/2008 20:06

Claricebean, my MIL is exactly the same as you

Funny, because before DC's were born she claimed she couldn't remember much of DH's childhood "milestones".

My Dad is worse though

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 20:07

mind you she reckons that dh's sister looks like his cousin

they are stepcousins but she has forgotten

Lizzylou · 27/03/2008 20:07

Sorry, Claricebean, "yours" not "you"!

Moomin · 27/03/2008 20:08

oh this drives me MAD! MIL findly watches dd1 eating Sunday lunch with gusto and trills "Ooo you can tell she's a [dh's surname] - she loves her potatoes"

Yes, because potatoes are such an exotic and unusual foodstuff

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 20:09

lolol at potatoes

southeastastra · 27/03/2008 20:10

lol too! though with us it's cheese. ds loves cheese just like i do from mil.

BumperliciousAteTooManyEggs · 27/03/2008 20:11

She's only 10 months so not skills, but looks, definitely, all the time.

When she first met her as a newborn she said "ooh she's got my hands" - what, wrinkly and scaly?

Bizarrely she does it with me too. Apparently I look like her sister or someone other relative

clam · 27/03/2008 20:13

Oh God. Thought this was just my parents. They take the credit for every good thing and keep quiet on the dodgy bits.

TrixieVix · 27/03/2008 20:14

Arrrrgggghhh - this is so familiar!! My MIL says she can't see any of DS in me at all, yet every other person we meet ALWAYS says how much of a doppleganger he is for me! She sees what she wants to see - grrrr.

On the other hand, DH says DS gets his temper from you, or DS gets his unfortunate hairline from you etc etc - when it's bad stuff he's inherited, it's always from my side then!

Yes. (to OP) . My genes may as well not exist in her eyes.
