I'm bemused how a 30 year old would want to marry a 50 year old, as for all the old cynical reasons, he is not that rich or that famous is he? I know there is a lot of discussion here about age gap relationships so I wondered what people thought. I remember being hit on by a 35 year old when I was 22 and I thought he was old!

It's a big age gap but it's not creepy or Pervy like some are saying . By your 30s you're grown up with your partying behind you .

Given she's put up with the psychopathic antics of his lunatic, abusic ex wife for the past three years and hasn't scarpered, I would say it has a fairly good chance of working, yes.

History will show you plenty of "OW" that go on to have long and happy relationships.

The thing is though, sometimes a better offer really doesn’t show up.

I have a few friends who are young (early 30s), objectively very attractive, in great jobs and entirely self sufficient, funny and lovely, yet after 10947464 dates they still haven’t found anybody they want to settle down with.

Chemistry is really quite complex, it’s not as simple as 2 people who are young and successful will just fall in love because they’re equal opposites.

I'm no oracle on relationships, and I have only loved 3 men in my life, but one of them was 23 years older than me. I was 25 when we met and 28 when we went our separate ways. Other than the stamina for partying/going out (not sexually - he was absolutely on form on that point!) - we were very well matched, shared common interests and we were very much in love, but I wanted a traditional family unit and he did not. Or not on my terms anyway.

I believe love doesn't recognise age differences, but as they are in the tabloids and he's had a messy breakup - we are aware of it and therefore make judgements. IMO he seems like a grade A arsehole, but I don't know him or her, so good luck to them. I just hope the children are ok and not exposed to too much of it.

The children are very much not OK because his ex wife has abused them and completely alienated them from their father.

I strongly suggest anyone calling him an arsehole on the basis of ill informed daily mail articles actually reads the court documents, which are in the public domain.

In the case of Ioan he's very good looking, he looks after himself, doesn't look 50 and he's possibly a nice man. I think he looks pretty good for 50 and if all 50 year old men looked him I might up my dating age but they don't.

Someone who looks after themselves is going to be fitter than someone who smokes, eats junk and drinks. So most likely they'll need less looking after, not everyone needs looking after in old age either.

ODFOD. It’s in the news so I had some cursory interest. It doesn’t mean I’m motivated to pore over court reports of people I don’t know, that’s more than slightly obsessive. I’m not the bored one, clearly.
