Need to back out of agreement, scared of losing his respect

Me and DH are very headstrong and stubborn, lately it seems all we do is argue. Its like a constant power struggle.

In a bid to improve things we've decided to go back to nature and fight it out. The kids are away next weekend at their grandmas so we've planned the fight for then.

I have a few years of martial arts training behind me but DH is bigger and quite a lot stronger. As we've been going through the details DH has started putting all these rules in place (like no kicking or punching to the groin) and it seems like he is purposely trying to jeapordise any chance I have of winning or even holding my own which I don't think is fair. Its just another example of his power hungry attitude.

Now I'm starting to think it was a stupid idea and want to back out but if I do it will more or less give him free reign to boss me around and take the piss for months.

Should I just go ahead with it and hope for the best or back out and deal with the fall out?

just whack him with this

jesuswhatnext · 06/03/2008 16:56

trot on!

beaniesteve · 06/03/2008 16:56

If he can make up rules, so can you - can't see what the problem is.

Christingle · 06/03/2008 17:00

Thanks for the replies.

Thing is, I don't think he will fight dirty, he's not really the type. We have had arrangd fights before, often for fun although sometimes they have turned into a bit of a power struggle.

Another rule is that either of us can back out at any time during the fight, if anyone starts to cry the fight gets stopped and we can call time out at any time in order to get a quick drink or catch our breath...as long as nobody is in a position of power at the time. (So for instance if I was choking him he couldn't call time out to get out of it).

I'd rather not fight dirty.

Tea came out of my nose

keep it clean

what about an arm wrestle?

CaptainKarvol · 06/03/2008 17:04

so, is this a scrap, or a formal martial arts style thing you are talking about? How do you decide when one of you has won?

CaptainKarvol · 06/03/2008 17:04

First blood?

Oh lordy.

Does your DH not have any "issues" with fighting women?

And tip re wind up threads.. you have to make it surreal enough to get people's interest and make them wonder, but real enough to keep them posting. Not that I know much about wind up threads, naturally!!

belgo · 06/03/2008 17:07

have a game of scrabble instead

jesuswhatnext · 06/03/2008 17:07

so, are you a big, ole mutha then?

funnyhaha · 06/03/2008 17:07

"We have had arrangd fights before, often for fun although sometimes they have turned into a bit of a power struggle".

I think you may have been off school on the day they talked about fighting. This is sort of the point.
I think you need to sort this out one way or another. Either you do a proper fight club style extravaganza (no rules, and certainly none of this wimpy 'stop if someone cries' stuff) or you need to settle your arguments in with something with clearer rules. Badmington for example.

Geri2 · 06/03/2008 17:10

lol at yorshirepudding's camping hahahha I thought the same or some loving lol

If someone was being choked, it'd be a bit difficult to call out for help anyway, wouldnt it!!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 06/03/2008 17:11

Both of you are idiots

VictorianSqualor · 06/03/2008 17:12

I'm chuckling away ehre but I just have to roll out my Nan's favourite line;

"It'll all end in tears, and don't come crying to me when one of you gets hurt"

OverMyDeadBody · 06/03/2008 17:17

lol at shiny not knowing much about wind-up threads!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/03/2008 17:19

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Bluebutterfly · 06/03/2008 17:21

PML...

SheherazadetheGoat · 06/03/2008 17:22

but more importantly what are you going to wear? i think you should have a big daddy/giant haystacks theme.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/03/2008 17:25

blue for him, red for you

hecate · 06/03/2008 17:26

I think the rules of the fight are the least of your problems.

Have you considered arm wrestling instead?
