Am I crazy or is someone entering the house?

A few years ago I found out that my husband had cheated. We separated. He stayed in the marital home and I was the one who left because he didn't want us to separate.
Since returning there have been a handful of times I have felt like someone might be entering the property when there's nobody there.
The first time I noticed it was when we came in from an afternoon out and it was like the furniture had been moved. I couldn't say what had actually been moved but the gap between certain items had narrowed as I walked through.
There were a couple of other times when I wasn't sure but it felt like things had moved. There was one time that I know that something had definately been moved.
Another time our adult DC commented on a strange chemical smell in the house as we entered. I could smell it too but DH couldn't.
It's only ever happened if we have been out during daytime, never evening.
For someone to be entering they would not only need a key but they would need to know that neither of us were in. They would also need to know if our adult DC was staying with us as he comes and goes.
I thought maybe someone could potentially track one of us via a phone, but surely not three separate phones.
I can't see that it would be possible for someone to know when all of us are out.
I'm sure I'm not going mad because I get the feeling only occasionally, not all the time, and there was one time I can say 100% something had moved.
any ideas welcome because I cannot work it out nor why a person would want to enter the house.

Nanny cam in the room ?

Gymmum82 · 04/08/2023 16:57

Ring doorbell unless there is another door they could be getting in. Or set up the ring doorbell in the house

Why don't you just change the locks?

Melony75 · 04/08/2023 17:01

Is the loft open with your neighbours house or is there a wall separating them?

BaroutC · 04/08/2023 17:04

I think changing the locks might be a good idea.

No, the loft isn't open.

Change the locks and check everywhere for cameras.

BaroutC · 04/08/2023 17:09

I hadn't thought about the possibility of hidden cameras.
Wouldn't they need to be accessed somehow?

Put 2 ring doorbells up - one front and one back then you'll see. But if it is someone coming in it would be very weird just to move things closer together or around the place. A dirty plate that was left on the side - then I could see how that happened (they came in, had something and left quickly when disturbed) or something left that doesn't belong to your family I'd get - but just moving things? I don't see why that would happen.

AuroraForever · 04/08/2023 17:21

Change the locks, get a ring doorbell and maybe one or two for inside upstairs and down. Your instinct is telling you something is going on so do something! In the meantime I’d also be setting some kind of trap but then that’s just me!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/08/2023 17:26

Get a nanny cam for inside, too.

thatsnotmylifeitstoocrazy · 04/08/2023 17:29

Cameras, change all the locks…not sure of you can check if someone tracking your phone, check car not got a tracker on and no air tags

RoseLoverrr · 04/08/2023 17:41

I'm a bit confused about the context for this OP- do you mean you returned to the marriage? If so then what is it you are suspecting might have happened whilst you were temporarily absent from the family home?

Conqueeftador · 04/08/2023 17:42

We just got a cheap baby monitor wifi camera to watch our dog when we first started leaving her home alone. It was about £30 from Amazon. You can watch it on your mobile wherever you are. It costs more to record it, but we just wanted to be able to check on her. It senses movement ant turns to face it.

TheLurpackYears · 04/08/2023 17:42

He has a secret cleaner.

ttcat37 · 04/08/2023 17:47

Stick a wedge of paper in the door you think he’s entering in. If you come home and it’s dropped out then someone’s been in.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 04/08/2023 17:49

Get an indoor tapo camera, twenty quid on amazon. Link it to your phone.

Chanhedforthis · 04/08/2023 17:50

Check your loft. A friend of mine had this problem, there was a guy living there and would come down when he knew they were all out.

She found out as she came back 5 minutes after leaving as she forgot something.
