Men that aren't kind to animals

I've seen it listed on here many times that a red flag for a man is one who isn't kind to animals. Now I understand why being unkind to animals is bad, that is obvious irrespective of sex, but I'm wondering what people's assumption is related to that behaviour? Is it presumed to suggest they're abusive to those more vulnerable than them? What if there is no suggestion of this and that it's 'just' an intolerance of animals (again I'm not trying to minimise the point)? Is it more that people wouldn't want to be with someone who doesn't like animals because they do?

I'm genuinely wanting to understand what people's main, related concern is, if there is one.

I know lots of people, male and female, who are fairly indifferent to animals (especially other people's animals), and who roll their eyes a bit at people who dote on their pets. These sorts of people wouldn't think twice about shooing a sleeping cat off a chair if they wanted to sit down etc. This is miles away from actually being unkind. Nasty is nasty, no matter who it's aimed at.

@Allelbowsandtoes yep I am vegan. Have been for years

Good on you, me too 😊 unfortunately, realistically most people posting here won't be despite them professing their love for animals

(for the record, my husband would rather sit on the floor than wake a sleeping cat, and it's one of my favourite things about him)

It's about abuse of power just because they can and the desire and willingness to enact this. A basic lack of respect for anything and anyone outside themselves, willingly expressed whenever they feel they can get away with it. Plus cruelty and sadism.

The waiter test is a milder example of the same thing.

It's because cruelty of any sort to any living thing is objectionable if you are a humane thinking person with a brain and a heart.

"just' an intolerance of animals" made me feel sick, like it's trying to excuse abuse. Unforgivable.

This 100%

"Love animals", hate vegans.

Ridiculous isn't it

It's got nothing to with that. No functioning person is going to condone or be attracted to an animal abuser.

It is bad in its own right! It has nothing to do with potentially abusing others.

My husband wouldn’t disturb a cat sleeping on his knee to make me a cup of tea. It’s one of the things that annoys me about him. 😂

ive been in a domestic violence relationship and when i ended it, i had to phone the police numerous times against him. Everytime the police would ask how he was with pets etc. Eventually i asked why i kept getting that question. They told me there is studies that show violent crime such as domestic violence usually starts with being aggressive to animals due to them being vulnerable. The police were using the question as date for psychopath/ sociopath profiling.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 21/06/2023 21:26

So sorry for what you went through @BCD123 and glad you're out of that situation now.

It's on the dash risk checklist to assess how likely somebody is to be a domestic abuser, that's enough reason for me.

Exactly. Also an indicator of violence towards children and psychopathy.
