Is sleep texting a real thing?

confusedinmyrelationship · 04/06/2023 09:48

I received the following texts from my partner yesterday afternoon, he said he has no idea how they were sent. Saying it must have been sent when he was asleep. Do you think this could be true or do I need to accept that he is talking to someone else and sent it to me by accident?? Clearly there is a typo in the first message but I can’t get my head around the ‘show me how good 😅❤️’
Please can I have your advice 😢

Is sleep texting a real thing?

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt because it's SO random, and some people do this.

You know him OP - does he use the phrase "You all" instead of "You're all" or "You are all"? If my DP sent me "You all" I'd know it wasn't something HE would ever send to anyone. He's a stickler.

Some people pick up their phone and send texts in their sleep?

What?

@GreyCarpet I know, I've been quite the source of entertainment to family and friends over the years! I agree with you, which is why I said I doubt it's the case with him. I was mainly answering the op's questin about whether sleep texting is a 'thing' ...it is...!

I can imagine! 🤣

My son went through a period of sleepwalking when he was about 9. It was terrifying tbh! 🙈

And I know you did, sorry

But so many people come on threads to say "you're worrying about nothing. I've done that/my partner's done that their whole life" completely unable to see the difference between a pattern of innocent, typical behaviour in one person/relationship and a completely out of the blue, unprecedented behaviour in another.

I've found that in most scenarios, the most likely explanation is the truth. The text was meant for someone else. Rephrased: 'This thing happened that you witnessed. Are you good (generally)? Now show me how good of a witness you are (lie for me?)'

Don't let him talk himself out of it. This is clear as day

Gettingbysomehow · 04/06/2023 12:38

He's taking you for a fool.

Totally agree. Occam's razor.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 04/06/2023 12:39

No. But coming up with a desperate story is, and so is being credulous.

First typo is witnesses should be princess.

You all good princess, show me how good

I agree with this. Sorry op it doesn’t sound good.

This actually sounds the most plausible explanation. 'You all good witnesses' doesn't really make sense and surely would need to be sent to more than one person-can you send group texts??

I hope I'm wrong but either way he's a bullshitter.

Twopintsprick81 · 04/06/2023 12:47

I've just seen that you can send texts to a group of ppl. I'm rubbish with phones!

GCalltheway · 04/06/2023 13:23

The message was not intended for you. Lame excuse - sleep txt??!!

ThatFraggle · 04/06/2023 13:36

All you sleep texters. Did you do it DURING THE DAY like this man wants op to believe?

Pixiedust1234 · 04/06/2023 17:20

booboo24 · 04/06/2023 11:20

I'm not defending him here as I too think he's asking for help to cover something up. HOWEVER, I'm a prolific sleep walker and talker, I can look completely with it, I've fed the cats, even ran myself a bath before only to be woken by by now ex husband! I do send random texts in my sleep too, and I bought and paid for a phone case off eBay years ago, I only knew the next day when I saw the confirmation email, so sleep texting IS a thing, but in this case, I doubt it - do you know if he could even have been asleep at that time?

I agree, ask to see his phone now, see what his reaction is.

I bet the cats luurrvveee you! 😂

If you are asleep? Why not?
I’m not saying that this is what’s happened but your can’t just totally dismiss it as a thing that is impossible. It does happen.

perfectcolourfound · 04/06/2023 17:38

Does he call you Princess?

If so, it might have been a text meant to for you, half asleep, hence he didn't notice the spellcheck to 'witnesses'.

Only you know how he normally talks to you.

2 of my dc sleep text! I is 16. One 33!! Text absolute rubbish usually to other siblings - ones near the top of text message list... One also used to find money and hide it. Once in a pan. Once in a magazine I nearly threw out! Younger one used to leave voice messages whilst asleep too. Don't be quick to point the finger op.

One of mine does too 😂
He's sent some hilarious stuff to his younger sibling, I'm not sure if it's stuff he's been dreaming about or what.

TMess · 05/06/2023 04:02

I have sleep texted, I also sleep walk, talk, etc, but it’s always nonsensical things that were clearly not composed by a fully thinking brain. This isn’t it, he’s lying through his teeth.

MysteryBelle · 05/06/2023 04:42

Smartiepants79 · 04/06/2023 12:27

You can do all sorts of things whilst sleeping so I don’t know why texting should be so unbelievable.
I have friends that have rearranged furniture when asleep. My Dd sleep walks and talks.
I’ve no idea whether your partner is one of those types of people or if he was likely to be asleep at that time of the day??

You have friends, as in more than one, who rearrange furniture in their sleep. I’m sorry, I don’t believe this 😂

My sister sleepwalked, would walk out of the house and into the woods. So I’m familiar with people sleepwalking but not anyone actually doing things, especially texting?? I just find that difficult to believe. All the commenters claiming they do that…I just don’t believe it.

I certainly don’t believe your husband was “sleep texting” fully asleep and texting. No, I don’t believe it.

MysteryBelle · 05/06/2023 04:44

Someone might be groggy from sleep, or woke up barely and texted, but I do not believe for one second that someone is fully asleep, in a sleep cycle, unconscious, and texting sentences to people.

Boomshock · 05/06/2023 04:54

@MysteryBelle
But yet they do. It's even studied these days because it's pretty common.

It doesn't mean that the OPs partner is telling the truth, but it does happen.

Are they half asleep, @Boomshock, or fully unconscious and asleep?

This is fascinating actually.

I'd say they are more unconscious than half asleep, I think there's only been small studies in recent years so they are probably just relying on what people say, for example they have no memory of it, as opposed to studying people in some kind of sleep clinic where they're monitoring their sleep activity.

Some people cook in their sleep!

Wow, even cooking. I learn something new every day, as they say!

PortUmber · 05/06/2023 05:11

i don’t think witnesses and princess are interchangeable with text prediction. At all.
Had he just been on a night out with a group of friends without you? I think they’ve seen him do something and he’s checking to see that they won’t dob him in.

I think you can text in a semi conscious state, but it’s such a dubious thing to just ‘happen’ to text when half asleep, having never (I assume) done it before…

@confusedinmyrelationship

Smartiepants79 · 05/06/2023 06:30

I can’t believe how many people are unable to accept that some people have different experiences to them!
Just because YOU don’t make sense when you text in your sleep doesn’t mean no one else does.
If you sister can get up and walk out of the house whilst asleep why can you not believe that others might do other things.
@MysteryBelle you don’t have to believe it but I can name at least 4 people of my direct acquaintance who do strange things in their sleep - walking, talking, dancing, moving things around!
