How accurate is google location?

Jay900 · 23/03/2023 16:56

My husbands google location has been saying for the past 2 months that he has been at a hotel 1-3 times a week. I confronted my husband about this and his response was - (swearing blind) he’s never been there before, the hotel is only a field away from his work (in a rural area) so google location has been “glitching” I accepted this as i would never believe he would cheat or anything, however, since I confronted him about it (2 weeks ago) I’ve checked it everyday and it hasn’t “glitched” once and shows his work location. What do you think?

If you are tracking your husband's location on a daily basis then you have a different issue.....

Ariela · 23/03/2023 17:00

Not massively accurate if the signal is poor (currently in my lounge - location of phone is apparently 3 fields away)

Blingstar · 23/03/2023 17:01

Seems like a bit of a coincidence that Google's glitch has stopped. I suppose the only way to find out would be to go to the hotel and ask if they recognise him? Average 3 visits a week is a frequent visitor.

This.

TBH, it's irrelevant whether the location is accurate or not. You don't trust him.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/03/2023 17:01

Why are you checking his Google location? I'd say your relationship is in deep trouble, you clearly don't trust him.

27penny · 23/03/2023 17:02

Well now he knows to leave the phone at work when he's at the hotel 😬

Nimbostratus100 · 23/03/2023 17:07

I've never looked at my google location before, so I've just tried, I am apparantly sitting outside in the carpark two blocks of flats away. Quite close... but not perfect. Maybe 200 m out

category12 · 23/03/2023 17:15

Where's this coming from?

Has he got form for cheating?
Are there other things that make you suspect him?

America12 · 23/03/2023 17:33

Mine is spot on

America12 · 23/03/2023 17:34

Why are you looking for his location ?

KnickerlessParsons · 23/03/2023 17:42

Mine is bang on - it even shows I'm in the back of the house rather than the front.
I think it's more accurate in built up locations though and less so in rural areas, or where the signal is poor.

booboo24 · 23/03/2023 17:43

The whole "you don't trust him" argument is fine and technically correct, but most people would want more back up as to whether they're "right" not to trust. Op mine's accurate, I'm in my house, and I'm in a tiny village surrounded by fields. However, my daughter's location had her on a dual carriageway a couple of weeks ago when she was at school 4 miles away! They do glitch. The fact his hasn't glitched since would ring alarm bells tbh

MrNook · 23/03/2023 17:48

Mine shows me has being one road away to where I actually am

Weird that the glitch stopped happening though isn't it? Has he got form for cheating, is that why you were checking?

RNLD1981 · 23/03/2023 17:52

Mine is not always quite right. I used to live at number 7 and it thought I was at number 11. As others say though, the bigger issue is why you're checking

motherofkevinnotperry · 23/03/2023 17:53

It's not very accurate and doesn't always update. Apparently we live next door and my children's locations aren't accurate.

If you feel you need to track your DH you have other options and clearly the reason to consider.

HoneyPotBee · 23/03/2023 18:05

There is no trust in your relationship and you need to work on that together. Does he also track you? An affair is the least of your worries at the moment.

InSpainTheRain · 23/03/2023 18:17

It can be a bit inaccurate by a few metres, my observation is that it's more inaccurate in areas with a poor signal. However, I haven't seen a glitch the size of a field for me or my sons (we track one running because he likes us to) before. I would ask yourself if there is a pattern. So, for example, if it always "glitches" at lunch time or after works or for a consistent period then maybe it's not a glitch at all. Certainly if you haven't seen it happen since you mentioned it I'd say he does go to the hotel but leaves his phone behind.

A hotel doesn't necessary mean it's a bad thing though - maybe he goes to the bar, has lunch there, buys cigarettes there if no shops nearby or something like that. Unless you have reason to not trust him I wouldn't jump to any conclusions.

Christmasbird · 23/03/2023 18:54

Mine links to the nearest business quite often as it asks if I like to rate it, I'm always close by but not actually been inside the premises.

PennyForearm · 23/03/2023 19:00

The fact that the apparent "glitching" has stopped since you confronted him doesn't look good.

Eh, how is it the least of her worries? 😂

You can't say OP must sort out lack of trust before establishing the reason for the distrust.

Generally people trust their partners up until they have a reason not to. There are of course people who visit the ghosts of past relationships on current partners etc, but no reason to assume the OP is one such.

Avarua2 · 23/03/2023 19:13

Mine is waaaaaay out. It thinks I'm 5 km away in the nearest town!

XVII · 23/03/2023 19:21

location can of course glitch from time to time but if its constant? Less likely I’d say
also what times of day?

Pythonesque · 23/03/2023 19:26

My son once lost his phone at school and when I went back over where he'd last had said, well have you looked in that building? No - find my phone was showing it in a different part of the school well away from there. So we retraced his movements for the day and tracked it down not where it had been showing on the map.

I think these location things vary a lot depending on signal and interference and so on.

TheChosenTwo · 23/03/2023 19:29

What is google location and how can I get it, I want to try it myself now and see how accurate it is!
I think it’s telling that it’s stopped ‘glitching’ only now, just after your asked him about it. Why were you suspicious enough to check? And if I had suspicions I think I’d have gone down there to catch him out myself!!

OverUnderBackwardsForwards · 23/03/2023 19:30

Fwiw mine is never accurate - it all depends on your wifi or signal
