Do you know women who believe in horoscopes?

My friend is a Pisces. Okay, we’ve been friends for decades and when we were younger we were fascinated, as were most of the other women friends - especially because of the relationships with dating and making new friends angle. I’m a Scorpio.

I don’t put much thought into this kind of stuff anymore. But my friend is really driven by it still. She’ll meet a man and feel off because he’s a Sagittarius! Or another Gemini! And will expect me to agree. I don’t anymore tbh. I wouldn’t say she’s a typical piscean either but she’ll explain her own behaviour like, oh, you know I’m a piscean like your big sis and so you probably understand. We just […insert some trait eg being too generous and kind until they blow a fuse..]

I will try and reply with logic. Boundaries etc. oh, could you have possibly […] and her reply will be all pisceans are just this way. I don’t get out much anymore but people can’t still be reading horoscopes to understand the world?
She’s actually really smart otherwise. Brilliant job independent, confident go-getter if perhaps a little unlucky in love. But that’s because she’s a piscean of course.

Do you think horoscopes are still relevant? Or friends who do?

No!

It would be a huge red flag to me too if someone did.

Like all 14 year old, I was into it in the 80s. I'm a typical Aries... but then I learnt about confirmation bias and realised I was also a typical whatever else too.

Background, upbringing and life experiences? Yes. How the planets were aligned when you popped forth into the world? No.

It's nonsense.

Yes. I agree about the confirmation bias.

I used to write horoscopes for a popular magazine. I assure you I had/have no special knowledge. I also wrote the letters on the letters page.

Happy days. Awful money but good fun.

Grapewrath · 10/02/2023 20:33

I love astrology tarot and crystals- I guess 90s teen me never out grew it🙏. I dint mind if other ms don’t or think it’s weird. To each their own.
I find lots of religions and whet they believe really crazy but what others do is up them

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 20:35

People who believe this crap need to get in the bin. Instantly tells me you have zero critical thinking skills.

Grapewrath · 10/02/2023 20:38

People who don’t believe in this kind of thing always get really passionate about why it’s bollox. I’m curious as to why that is sometimes.
I don’t believe in what a lot of others do, but I don’t care what they chose to use and believe in or don’t tbh

NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/02/2023 20:40

The only grown women I have known who have been into that sort of woo-woo have also spent a fuckton of money on psychics scam merchants, card readers scam merchants and pretty much lost everything as a result.

Except for one who was absolutely minted - as a result of other vulnerable women sending thousands they can't afford her way. The first category, I'd try to support in realising they were being taken advantage of pay for magically manifesting the man of your dreams, my fucking arse as gently as possible, the second got cut off the instant I realised for being the scum of the earth.

It's the original scam, worse than MLM huns.

MissWings · 10/02/2023 20:40

Yeah I do and I believe in the Secret too and the law of attraction. Love, love, love it all.

Grapewrath · 10/02/2023 20:43

Interesting about the scam aspect. I personally have never paid for a chart or reading, I can do my own. I’ve seen some mediums but their demos were free
I’m sure people probably do exploit others in this sense, sadly.

the80sweregreat · 10/02/2023 20:43

Never trust anyone 100 percent and you will be fine regardless of their star sign!

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 20:45

Several reasons it makes me cross/ not really like you. As I said, it shows you have no critical reasoning or logic skills. That doesn't bode well for other areas of your life. Second, people that try and get money out of people for this shit- reading palms, tarot etc is that it is scamming. They know it's all bollocks but happy to take money, particularly from vulnerable/grieving people.

userxx · 10/02/2023 20:46

What a load of bollocks.... spoken like a true Sagittarius.

MarshaMelrose · 10/02/2023 20:46

gotmychristmasmiracle · 10/02/2023 07:27

I am Pisces too and do read horoscopes 🤣 know what she means about geminis 🤣

I'm a Piscean, too. And Gemini men... 😡

Is it just Pisces who feel like that about them?!!

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 20:47

Why not put the same energy and invest it into learning science?

MissWings · 10/02/2023 20:51

@Perfect28

Delightful person aren’t you. Why would you dislike someone for their beliefs that could potentially be wrapped up in their spirituality? I find that even more odd to be honest, and unkind.

I mean you’re more than entitled to think I’m a thick person but I don’t believe I am. I am just about to graduate with a first class degree, although in health and social care not a “harder” science I must admit.

Terrible vibes from you…… 😉. Lighten up!

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 20:54

Because what kind of simpleton believes that the month you are born in dictates your life outcome? How is that a spiritual belief? It's a denial of reality.

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 20:55

And actually yes i dislike 'spiritual' people too, because it's all under the same nonsense umbrella 🤣

Grapewrath · 10/02/2023 20:58

Interesting regarding the critical thinking skills- do all people who believe in something spiritual lack those skills. As an example, Christians believe Jesus turned wine into water- do you shy away from friendships with religious people too? I’m curious as to know why it triggers you, if you’d choose not to have those friendships.
I see this a lot about money/scams but the friends who share my beliefs can read charts themselves so it’s not something I’ve experienced personally.
im sure there are charlatans in every walk of life however.
You are presuming that I haven’t studied science, you are wrong but that’s not the point. Lots of scientists also have religious snd spiritual beliefs.

Grapewrath · 10/02/2023 20:59

sorry just saw your last reply- you obviously choose friends who share your same mindset and beliefs. I understand that :) Lots of people do.

DillDanding · 10/02/2023 21:00

I don’t know anyone into astrology. I’ll admit I’d find anyone that was a bit odd. It’s so silly.

Fairislefandango · 10/02/2023 21:01

No, it's all very obviously utter bollocks and always was. Anyone who thinks you can divide the whole of humanity into 12 personality groups based on what part of the year they were born in is a dimwitted simpleton.

MissWings · 10/02/2023 21:02

@Perfect28

Ahh gotcha. You’re not accepting of anyone else’s spiritual beliefs full stop. Well that tells me all I need to know about you.

@Grapewrath

Yes, I’ve met scientists at work with spiritual beliefs ranging from complete woo to life after death etc. The pure teachings of astrology is often connected to universal beliefs which can be tied up with paganism. I do believe that’s too much depth for a certain poster though.

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 21:03

Many people who believe in science and have faith do not believe such stories literally but 'believe' in the allegory. On the whole yes, I put religious people in the same boat. I have absolutely nothing against the idea that we don't know everything etc but science is our best way of figuring that stuff out and so if you want answers that's probably the best place to put your energy.

Perfect28 · 10/02/2023 21:04

Alternatively, study the religions and traditions of people through an anthropologist's lens, if that stuff interests you.

MissWings · 10/02/2023 21:05

@Perfect28

I will live how I see fit thank you 😁. I am sorry it makes you so angry.

H34th · 10/02/2023 21:06

I had my (long) phase when I was quite into all that. Not the daily horoscopes but the character traits associated with each sign etc.

I even remember being quite good at guessing ppl's star signs by their attitude to things after starting to get to now them a bit!

I still use it as an excuse for some friends (she's a Gemini, she can't help herself!) or jokingly telling another Sagittarius that we are the best! Lol. However, I can't say I actually still believe the stuff.

Also, I was just thinking about my child and a few other children born around the same time (same sign) and how absolutely different their little personalities are. I wouldn't be able to 'guess' anything at that age.
