Do you know women who believe in horoscopes?

My friend is a Pisces. Okay, we’ve been friends for decades and when we were younger we were fascinated, as were most of the other women friends - especially because of the relationships with dating and making new friends angle. I’m a Scorpio.

I don’t put much thought into this kind of stuff anymore. But my friend is really driven by it still. She’ll meet a man and feel off because he’s a Sagittarius! Or another Gemini! And will expect me to agree. I don’t anymore tbh. I wouldn’t say she’s a typical piscean either but she’ll explain her own behaviour like, oh, you know I’m a piscean like your big sis and so you probably understand. We just […insert some trait eg being too generous and kind until they blow a fuse..]

I will try and reply with logic. Boundaries etc. oh, could you have possibly […] and her reply will be all pisceans are just this way. I don’t get out much anymore but people can’t still be reading horoscopes to understand the world?
She’s actually really smart otherwise. Brilliant job independent, confident go-getter if perhaps a little unlucky in love. But that’s because she’s a piscean of course.

Do you think horoscopes are still relevant? Or friends who do?

Here’s an example. The specificity of all the many placements matters. But then something is going to apply to everyone with ‘placements’ (multiple different types of them) in 4 signs. So just about everyone then🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for the carefully individualised advice. 🤣

I’m pleased someone has highlighted the difference between popular sun sign horoscopes found in magazines and an in depth reading of a full natal birth chart.

Yes. There is a huge difference: the one in the TV guide is free.

hryllilegur · 10/02/2023 08:26

Actually… when I was onboarded to a new team at work, the first thing they asked me was what my star sign is.

I mean… what difference would that make?

isthismylifenow · 10/02/2023 08:26

As a fellow Pisces, I get the not dating a Scorpio bit.
Or a Gemini. 😀
Said in jest really, but I've had bad experiences with both.

I too was into astrology when I was younger, I would read the yearly ones but not these daily or weekly forecasts.

But I also think it's coming back around now in popularity as I see a lot on tik tok, which I skim over but clearly the algorithm got me. That and tarot card readings.

I had a birth chart reading a while ago that was disturbingly accurate, I went in as a complete non believer and came out baffled.

Whilst I would never live my life by horoscopes, and never think about them, I do occasionally listen to the reading I had and wonder how it was so bloody accurate!

It marked a turning point in my life though, the things I was told, so I suppose on some level I’ve believed and found great comfort in it!

It's a useful heads up as to what kind of team you were joining, I suppose.

NyanBinaryJohn · 10/02/2023 08:28

I have a colleague who's really in to this stuff.

Thing is, whilst the general traits assigned to a star sign can be accurate, in my case they certainly aren't.

This whole "oh, he's a Pisces, that's not a good match for me" is utter nonsense.

QueSyrahSyrah · 10/02/2023 08:31

I know a couple of people that do and I think they're mad, frankly. Put them in a box with the people who charge their crystals.

I'm not even certain what star-sign DH is, never mind whether we're compatible, but we're doing ok so far.

Didn’t Oscar Wilde say something about a cynic knowing the price of everything but the value of nothing?

It's still all bollocks though

385,000 roughly born every day, 11,550,000 each month...

Every single one of them, thats a virgo,
Feb 10, 2023 - An older person you're very fond of could visit or call and ask for your advice on practical matters. Clear and logical thinking enhances your intuition, Virgo, and you might be able to put this ability to work not only for your friend but also for yourself. Your own interests will be advanced today in some way, so expect a good day.

I'd be asking myself serious questions about the intellectual calibre and general common sense of your friends, at whatever age. I've never met anyone other than the kind of woo-obsessed, weed-addled hippy who runs a head shop who regarded horoscopes as anything other than nonsense to fill magazine columns.

hryllilegur · 10/02/2023 08:39

@isthismylifenow tye tarot card readings are hilarious. If this finds you, it was meant for you.

I get ridiculous reiki energy cleanses too. And witches typing string between candles. And all kinds of woo.

So much woo.

Whattheladybird · 10/02/2023 08:43

My MIL (and actually my FIL too) does this of the sort of explanations like “well, of course he is a Gemini so that explains it”. I screen it out and dismiss it as nonsense, as I do many of her Daily Mail inspired wittering.

I don’t know my children’s star signs, which she seems to find crazy, because how will I know what they’re like. (Uh. Well…)

knackeredcat · 10/02/2023 08:45

The whole Sun sign only stuff is generalist finger-in-the-air nonsense, that's what gets printed.

My birth chart, on the other hand - scarily accurate. But I don't discuss it with others, I keep it to myself. People think I'm bonkers enough as it is 😳

SprungIsSpringing · 10/02/2023 08:47

Nope. I don't hold any sway with such nonsense. But then, I'm Aquarian so I wouldn't.

I cannot believe my younger self used to give horoscopes any head space at all. Cringe!!! Indoctrinated by the Sun Signs book by Linda Goodman my mother had.

Having said that I'm a typical libra and my Taurus daughter actually oawed the ground with her hoof foot and snorted when she had epic tantrums as a young kid.

hryllilegur · 10/02/2023 08:54

ah but is this scarily accurate chart a whole sign chart or a … whatever they call the other ones? That shift from Venus in the 6th house to the 5th house might make all the difference. And your Aries rising, rather than Taurus.

Choconut · 10/02/2023 08:57

I read them as a bit of fun, certainly wouldn't base any part of my life around them! Tried that when I was a gullible teen and realised it was all BS.

Cinecitta · 10/02/2023 08:58

The type of daily horoscope you read in the magazines are rubbish. But proper astrology is a science. It can be eerily accurate, can chart someone’s life and apparently even predict their future. If you dig deeper and research it, you might find something that’s worth looking into.

hryllilegur · 10/02/2023 08:58

Asking people for their actual astrological charts is probably an excellent way of getting at useful personal data. Days, months and places of birth. Especially if you triangulate with the annualised Chinese system (and pretend you care about whether they’re a golden dragon or an earth dragon).

I’m pretty confident that you could randomly generate these (so long as you kept the sun sign the same - because they’ll know what that is immediately) and people would say it’s eerily accurate.

It is not a science, no.

Im not into this but weirdly every boyfriend I ever had, I later found out they were an Aquarius. So I guess I have a type.

Do you know how to calculate, draw up and interpret a birth chart?
