Why are so many women looking for validation from a relationship?

Maybe it's the echo chamber effect of reading threads and posts on MN, but aren't there a lot of women in sub standard relationships who keep staying in them? Is it so bad to be single? Yes, it's expensive, but are women unable to get recognition and respect from other types of relationships? Why is the romantic relationship the panacea to social status and respectability for so many (although in reality these sub standard dynamics sound dreadful).

Erm no I got together with “someone” because he’s gorgeous, tall, nice person etc etc.

You sound bitter.

And you sound vile

I've only been on mumsnet a moment and by and large, the men on here (fuck knows what on earth men are doing on a forum for mothers but anyway) are here to troll single women and women generally. The other married women seem to have a strong dislike for any woman who isnt married with kids. I've no idea why. Honestly, I'd get shot of this forum and go meet some more healthy minded single women IRL cause it stinks in here

Because we have evolved to have a deep need to pair bond, and that close relationship you get in a romantic/ sexual relationship can’t be replicated in any other relationship.

Also, many woman are staying not because it’s ‘expensive’ to leave but because they would be in absolute poverty and potentially lose custody to their more affluent H who can maintain the kids in their settled home, school and friendship groups.
