A gentleman or a jealousy?

I went to races the other week with some male friends. I wore a stunning dress which was pretty low at the front and felt amazing. One of them decided to take his jacket off and put it over my shoulders. It wasn't even cold. Was he just being a gentleman or was he jealous of the other lads giving me attention and wanted me to cover up?

Could be either. Does it matter to you which one? Is this your boyfriend?

ScarletDelaney94 · 22/08/2022 11:09

I suppose its difference between how feels about me and understanding the meaning behind his actions no he's not my boyfriend

So he just did this without asking? How low was the dress? What was your reaction? What did he say when you asked him why he did it?

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 22/08/2022 11:48

Unless he did it up, surely it did nothing to cover your cleavage anyway?

It's pretty bizarre and I'd ask him "why did you put your jacket over my shoulders without asking me". I would be very unimpressed with this.

Cheminaufaules · 22/08/2022 11:51

You say it wasn't cold but maybe he thought you were cold from your body language? Is he older than you?

Comedycook · 22/08/2022 11:52

You're so amazing none of the men could take their eyes off you...this man is deeply in love with you and knew all the other men were mesmerized by your incredible beauty hence why he put the jacket on you.

There you go.

JenGin · 22/08/2022 11:54

A misguided attempt to be gentlemanly, I'd say. I doubt it goes any deeper than that.

TitInATrance · 22/08/2022 11:56

Depends on the dress code and norms of the particular racecourse but he may just have been embarrassed. Not going to link the DM but they would suggest revealing styles are OK at Newmarket but not Ascot.

Cheminaufaules · 22/08/2022 11:57

We need more examples of his behaviour to analyse to give a more accurate assessment 😄

Softplayhooray · 22/08/2022 11:58

Sounds like a lovely guy. There's not always negative intentions....or romantic or sexual ones. Maybe he was just being nice.

ChickPeaChic · 22/08/2022 11:59

Well I think there are 4 potential options:

  1. he thought you were cold and was trying to keep you warm
  2. he wanted to dissuade other guys from talking to you
  3. he thought your outfit was inappropriate and was trying to preserve your modesty
  4. he was fed up of carrying/wearing his jacket and was using you as a convenient coat stand
ScarletDelaney94 · 22/08/2022 12:01

Probably saw me as a convenient coat stand 🙄

I had a previous hook up with him

Better to be a coat stand than maybe the alternative for this guy.
All sorts of connotations especially regarding dress code OP! 😉

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 22/08/2022 12:04

@ChickPeaChic excellent summary

I think it's either that he thought you weren't dressed correctly for the occasion/he wished you were more covered up, or he wanted to draw attention to himself/do you a small service (snort).

Hard to know which, did you not ask him?

JenGin · 22/08/2022 12:06

ScarletDelaney94 · 22/08/2022 12:02

I had a previous hook up with him

Oh. Well in that case it could be more a case of marking his territory!

ScarletDelaney94 · 22/08/2022 12:09

What I wore was none of his business

pennyennydots · 22/08/2022 12:09

A man wouldn't do this if he were not interested in you in some way. Maybe trying to be a gentleman, maybe jealous, we cant tell. But I'd say he likes you.

agedasiago · 22/08/2022 12:09

Are these dog or horse races, or something else?

I'd be repulsed if someone took a piece of clothing off their body and put it on mine without asking. (Maybe you personally don't mind, but it's inappropriate and intrusive for someone to assume you wouldn't.) If this is someone you share clothes with mid-wear on a regular basis, then perhaps he just thought you must be cold because he would have been if he were wearing your dress, and doesn't understand that people experience temperature conditions differently.

Anyway, he can offer the jacket and let you say yes or no, but putting it on you without discussion is weird and rude.

Or he was protecting the horses.

ThistleDoo · 22/08/2022 12:14

This new season of Bridgerton seems to have had something of a budget cut.

girlmom21 · 22/08/2022 12:20

His recent was the hook up?
