What's the most stress-free living situation?

OP posts:
dreammattemousse · 07/04/2022 19:20

Being a single woman with no kids i'd imagine

barbrahunter · 07/04/2022 19:23

Single woman, grown up kids, comfortably off.

Mummytobe93 · 07/04/2022 19:24

Enough money to have a nice place in a nice area
Single/ or with a compatible responsible loving partner
No kids/pets

Why? 😁

AntarcticTern · 07/04/2022 19:24

It depends! People find different things stressful, you may be the kind of person who finds it stressful living on your own (eg scared of burglars) or living with others (eg house always messy due to small children).

Suzi888 · 07/04/2022 19:25

Owning your home outright with enough savings to be comfortable?
Preferably with lots of animals Smile

Longsight2019 · 07/04/2022 19:34

Passive or pension income, or both. Tiny fixed cost base. Active interests. Small to medium social circle. Long term fwb who is in similar circumstances. No kids. Good health.

I don’t want much. Grin

Outer life -
Becoming financially independent,
Living in a nice place in a nice area,
Supportive family/friends,

Inner life -
Having clear boundaries, prioritising serenity, avoiding drama.
Living a simple life with integrity and self reliance.
Finding a sense of purpose and contribution to society,
Gratitude for what you have, and acceptance of things you cannot change.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/04/2022 19:54

Mortgage free
Alone
All modernisation needed on the home done (eg rewire, boiler, roof etc)
A good handy-person in your phone book
Enough space for visitors but not so much space that you feel lost

inmyslippers · 07/04/2022 19:57

Single with a cat or two

Dumblebum · 07/04/2022 19:57

A good relationship with mutual respect but independent lives also
Financial independence individually so together through choice only
Financially comfortable, able to not worry about money.

Money and relationships in my experience can be the worst stressors. Being with someone who treats you like shit, reliant on someone financially, money being tight. That’s what causes stress.

Sunnytwobridges · 07/04/2022 20:03

Owning my house outright, all kids living on their own, and having a wonderful man to share it with...a few days a week. Grin

scoobydoo1971 · 07/04/2022 20:04

An education, professional qualification or trade that gives regular opportunities for work.
Savings and assets to draw upon during a rainy day.
Holidays or days away according to personal preference.
Mortgage free housing in a nice area close to friends and family.
Not living with a partner due to financial dependence, and having the means to get away if needed. Living apart, or living with someone who is an addition to life and not a burden.
The living situation involves parties who have sufficient self esteem not to put up with abuse from others, but are not overbearing or controlling at the same time. Respectful cohabitation.
A social network that excludes toxic people.
Health and healthy family.

Mayblossominapril · 07/04/2022 20:16

Mortgage free in a nice area. Supportive partner and a shed/outbuilding/boat/caravan to sen him when you need a bit of space.
Kids that sleep

God. I'm a single woman with no kids and I'm so so stressed. ALL the mental load and all the income has to be earned by me. There isn't even anyone to make me a cuppa or for me to talk to after a difficult day.

This. Why the fuck I thought letting the boyfriend move in was a good idea is beyond me.

You might be less stressed with a sociable lodger. I quite liked having housemates.

OP I'd say financial independence, health, good boundaries, prioritising your well-being over money/assets, not taking any shit from anyone, removing yourself from situations that aren't working and being positive. I think there's a lot to be said for not moaning. If you're not going to moan about it you'll have to get on and change it. If you've got the means to moan about it endlessly, you might never sort it out. Whatever it is. Living with a partner brings compromise so it has to be the right person, whether it's a friend or a lover, but lovers tend to make more demands and want things their own way. You have to want to be nice to whoever you live with and they have to feel the same way. Then neither minds going out of their way to make the others life easier. Never live with a selfish person!

AHungryCaterpillar · 07/04/2022 20:49

Single with no kids. 100%

ReadyforTakeOff · 07/04/2022 21:03

Never being reliant on anyone financially or otherwise - it's a hiding to nothing.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/04/2022 22:46

Single but plenty of friends, good health, highish income and moderate cost base.

Toloveandtowork · 07/04/2022 22:51

Single, with grown up kids who don't live with you, or single with no kids.

MrsDanversBroom · 07/04/2022 22:52

Happily married, no kids, big house, plenty of money, great location

RollofDice · 07/04/2022 22:56

No social media

Grimsknee · 07/04/2022 23:16

Part time job that you enjoy, living alone, fit and healthy, one cat, mortgage-free small house or flat with a small garden close to an urban centre and public transit to minimise driving, handful of good friends, optional low maintenance boyfriend, hefty retirement savings.

DukeofEarlGrey · 07/04/2022 23:29

Single, childfree, good health, high income/low outgoings, own home, good retirement savings and/or career prospects, strong support network of friends and family, live in a peaceful area close to transport connections.

I also agree with the not moaning and being proactive about your life. i.e. having a positive mindset and sense of agency.
