Ok so I need to work the next 2 Saturdays and my son has basketball matches on Saturday. Unfortunately the next 2 matches are about a 40 minute drive away. Anyway husband announces to me tonight that he will be taking the car and not his works van (which his company pays petrol for)! And I have to get an Uber to and from work !!!! He says he’ll pay but I’m like what??? Thts ridiculous I need the car and you get the petrol paid by your company ! What a waste of money I’m fuming!!!

Is he allowed to use his works van for personal journeys? 🤔 anyone I know with a works vehicle (that the business pay the fuel for) isn't allowed to use the vehicle for personal journeys, and are actually only insured for business use. How far is your journey to work?

Shoxfordian · 15/03/2022 20:15

Can he use his work van when he’s not working?

Yeah, was going to say the exact same thing. My DPs work van has a tracker in it. He’s only allowed to use in on weekends when he’s on call. And using company fuel for personal trips is a sacking offence in his company.
UserMl · 15/03/2022 20:24

Yes he’s allowed to use it at Weekend and holidays it’s Written in his contract

Is it a really uncomfortable drive? Can he drop you to work and pick you up?

DenholmElliot · 15/03/2022 20:38

who does the car actually belong to? You or him?

UserMl · 15/03/2022 20:53

It belongs to us both

OP posts:
DenholmElliot · 15/03/2022 20:56

No, I mean who is the registered keeper?

Schwarz · 15/03/2022 20:59

Okay, so how far away is your work? Is the van as reliable as the car? Is it as comfortable?

Imo the person with the child that time (your partner) should take the car if it's more comfortable / reliable etc. Especially if it's 40 minutes there and back for the football, that's a long journey.

HowlongWillThisTakeNow · 15/03/2022 21:36

Vans are good for moving stuff, but not very comfortable, and if your OH is offering to pay for an Uber for you, I think your being a bit unreasonable really.

UserMl · 16/03/2022 01:48

I suppose I’m looking to save a bit of money by not paying an Uber which would be about 40 pounds. money’s tight at the moment and it’s our sons birthday on Monday I feel like the money would be better spent on something else.

girlmom21 · 16/03/2022 07:21

Yeah he can just drop you off and pick you up. His work won't pay for petrol when he's not working. I've seen people sacked for trying to do this.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 16/03/2022 07:29

Eh, why is he using the car?
What's the point in having 2 vehicles, he's creating a non-issue.

I understand him not wanting to use his works van all the time, but in this instance, he's being a twit.

UserMl · 16/03/2022 07:44

I totally agree about him creating a non issue. We have 2 vehicles no point paying for an Uber it’s just throwing money away that we don’t really have

girlmom21 · 16/03/2022 07:47

Has he agreed to give someone a lift so needs extra seats?

UserMl · 16/03/2022 08:09

No I think he’s annoyed I’m working Saturday and he’s making it difficult tbh

inheritancetrack · 16/03/2022 12:18

What's his reasoning behind this? It's ridiculous

Hiddenvoice · 16/03/2022 12:38

Is he maybe trying to not rely on the company car as much? My partner had one before and it was written into his contract thag he could use it for personal reasons but there was a limitation with mileage.
Does he get to drive the car often? Maybe just wants a turn of using it?
Why not compromise and one of the days he uses and you get an Uber and then the next time you use it and he drives the company car?

girlmom21 · 16/03/2022 12:46

@UserMl

No I think he’s annoyed I’m working Saturday and he’s making it difficult tbh
But then why would he offer to pay for an Uber?
EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 16/03/2022 12:47

Can you drive his van to your work, or is that not allowed? (I've always been added on as a named driver to partners' company cars, but they've always been cars, not commercial vehicles.)

No I think he’s annoyed I’m working Saturday and he’s making it difficult tbh

Ah. Does he get annoyed at being expected to parent his own children without you?

junglejane66 · 16/03/2022 17:07

@DenholmElliot

No, I mean who is the registered keeper?
Being the registered keeper does not mean you are the legal owner. It says that in big letters on the V5C
Hrpuffnstuff1 · 16/03/2022 17:23

A taxi to work is daft.
What a waste of money.

Bookworm20 · 16/03/2022 17:23

What is his actual reason for not using the van?
Because if he is allowed to use it for personal trips, I cannot for one second think of any valid reason why he would not use it so you can use the car.

Other than, he needs the extra seats that a car has (giving a lift/meeting anyone) but even in that case he would've just said that?

I'd be wanting an actual reason to his logic here.

Also, why is he annoyed you are working saturday? Had you made plans and this has got in the way of them? or had he made plans and now annoyed that he has to take your dc to football instead?

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 16/03/2022 17:35

Is he up to something and doesn't want to be identified by being in a sign written van?
