'There she is!' (smiling broadly) said by a man to a woman he knows as she's turning up. What would you make of it?

Am I the woman or a random person near by?

I don't think I would make anything of it. What is there to be made. It's just a greeting.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 21/02/2022 10:05

Nothing?

dudsville · 21/02/2022 10:06

I would think he spotted her?

ElleGB · 21/02/2022 10:07

Erm, absolutely nothing?

TheVanguardSix · 21/02/2022 10:09

Are you not British, OP (for the record, I am not myself)? This, to me, has always been a very charming British way of saying, "Ah you're here! Great!"

Passtherioja · 21/02/2022 10:09

We need a bit more context.

If he's a man in a relationship, beaming at another woman in a way he doesn't look at his wife/partner then I imagine wife/partner may be a bit fed up. However, if the circumstances are different there may be no issue at all.

Yes, that's what I was wondering.

Depends on tone & facial expression really.

I was a few minutes late to the pub last week and my fella said 'there she is' with a big grin, which meant to me that he was missing me and happy to see me.

If he'd been frowning and grumpy and looking at his watch I'd have taken it that he was p'd off with me being late.

So yes, we need context...

Context, both single people.

He sounds very happy to see you if he is smiling broadly.

Costacoffeeplease · 21/02/2022 10:15

I would say it’s a sense of relief that someone has arrived, that you’ve been waiting for

GertrudeKerfuffle · 21/02/2022 10:16

I think it can be read that 'she' is important to the man, especially if he's got a big grin on his face. Unless he says it to everyone he meets!

ApolloandDaphne · 21/02/2022 10:16

I would say he has been looking forward to seeing her.

Watchkeys · 21/02/2022 10:18

He likes her, but it could be equally as a brother or as a romantic potential.

Perhaps look for somebody you understand, rather than having to ask on forums to translate their behaviour. Otherwise, how will you ever have a conversation if you have to keep asking MN what he means?

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 21/02/2022 10:19

Are you the "she" in question?

At one point in my life, if I was the "she" I would have jumped to the conclusion that he had been talking shit about me to other people he was with and was now discreetly warning them to shut up.

This was a baseless fear driven by my low self esteem and damaging childhood.

Nowadays I would just take it as a friendly greeting.

NewYearEveryYear · 21/02/2022 10:19

I'd think he may be a contestant on the Bachelorette.

Sunseasun · 21/02/2022 10:20

Sounds like you were late for the meeting

Bluebellbike · 21/02/2022 10:27

When I saw the thread title I thought it was about the Frank Turner song.

5128gap · 21/02/2022 10:28

That she had not arrived at the time he expected and he had started to be concerned that it would cause delays, or that she couldn't find the meeting place. If you're looking for signs of extraordinary interest, I'd say face lighting up, big grin and enthusiastic greeting to the women directly rather than in the third person.

buddylicious · 21/02/2022 10:29

It would mean 'There she is"!

Ormally · 21/02/2022 10:33

He'd been scanning and looking but hadn't spotted the woman until then - like all the others he had seen were not her. And he was happy to notice her when she came.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 21/02/2022 10:36

It means ‘hello’

BuddhaForMary · 21/02/2022 10:38

Sounds like a pretty standard greeting, nothing more.

Ttcfinalbub · 21/02/2022 10:41

I wouldn't really think much, or else I would be over thinking a normal greeting =/

BowerOfBramble · 21/02/2022 10:42

Are you hoping this means he likes you? Or did you just find it weird?
