Something DH can do that I just can't.

I realised this Christmas that for all I criticise him DH can do something I just can't. His ability to patiently get involved in small talk from my elderly relations for long periods is astonishing. Same stories over and over. Hour after hour. Never thanked him til today. Whats your Dh's special skill?

His ability to reverse park a car into the smallest space astounds me. I am not a good Parker, I park in the furthest part of the car park where I know I will have 2 free spaces either side of me 😆

Bridie20 · 04/01/2022 21:17

Making me laugh.

Also, on holiday with my family he will go out and get us all breakfast at the break of dawn. He loves to get up and out and loves to provide for others.

TLKlover · 04/01/2022 21:18

Boosts my confidence when I need it! Unfortunately have a touch of imposter syndrome in a lot of things.

Can talk to anyone, old or young, they flock to him. Was walking home drunk once many years ago and he was stood chatting to a horse...bloody horse looked interested too.

We both have those faces where people tell us their life stories, he has tremendous patience and makes them feel listened to. I'm not saying I don't but he does it with such ease.

As much as he drives me nuts every day, he also has me laughing every day too, nearly 19 years on.

My Dh can fix anything from cars to washing machines and build anything from a bookcase to a barn yet can't use an iron but i will let him off as he has saved us £££s over the year. The downside to him being so handy is that everyone comes knocking asking him to fix things or build a shed, which he will do but never charges them.

Halloweencat · 04/01/2022 21:23

Staying calm through most things, being a brilliant dad & grandad, exceptionally neat wallpapering. I even trusted him to trim my fringe & ends of my hair in lockdown as he cuts the wallpaper so straight 😄
taking care of everything & being a rock when I had covid, long covid & other things going on last year,
We share household jobs but he gets it done quicker & more efficiently than me!

sjxoxo · 04/01/2022 21:26

Extreme, unshakable, never ending patience.

Both a blessing & a curse!!

RandomMess · 04/01/2022 21:27

He's tall, minimalist, great packer and unpacker and declutters. Is also tolerant of my ADD mess and helps keep it under control.

He cooks most of the meals, orders and receives the on-line shop. Does all the laundry clean knickers magically appear in my knicker drawer!

heidbuttsupper · 04/01/2022 21:29

Building flat pack furniture.

AshGirl · 04/01/2022 21:31

@AnneLovesGilbert This is so beautiful

He’s the best man I’ve ever known. No matter how long we have together it won’t be enough. He’s outstanding.

This is very much how I feel about my DH ❤️

DDMAC · 04/01/2022 21:31

Organising and getting places on time, he is unreal, can time it so he’s pulling into the car park of wherever he’s going to within 10 minutes of an appointment. I’ve never known him to be late for anything

DreamingofTimbuktu · 04/01/2022 21:40

He sits and sleeps in an uncomfortable position as it makes our elderly cat so happy.

Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese · 04/01/2022 21:40

My lovely husband does all the food shopping and fills my car up with petrol. He also serviced it yesterday. I don't think it's a special skill, just him trying to make my life easier.

MajesticallyAwkward · 04/01/2022 21:41

Cook eggs, I can't do it in any form. It's my weakness and secret shame but DH cooks a good egg. And laundry, he is obsessed with keeping on top of it, I haven't done a load in months.

He's also tall with freakishly long arms so can reach stuff without the aid of the DCs steppy stools.

I might complain about his eccentricities but he's a good guy.

Summerhillsquare · 04/01/2022 21:41

Not DH, but poached eggs and gravy - best I've ever tasted. Not together 🤣
Also is fantastically cuddly even tho v tall and thin. Never turns away, always turns towards me.

HappenstanceMarmite · 04/01/2022 21:52

So now I know where all the good men are. Explains dating sites lack of them… 😭

Veryverysadandold · 04/01/2022 21:54

Ah needed this, lovely thread.
Mine has been known to make me cry with laughter at 6am, when I generally want to murder all humans before 10am.
He also learnt how to make gyoza from scratch tonight and they were the best I've ever had.
He's so kind and gets on with everyone, he's too kind for this world.

GnomeDePlume · 04/01/2022 21:55

DH runs our home and does it well. Left to me, the DCs would have grown up eating what the cat can catch.

Immunetypegoblin · 04/01/2022 21:59

I'm glad you all are so happy, genuinely. However this thread makes me selfishly sad as I'm struggling to find any such depth of feeling for mine.... he does make me a cup of tea way more often than I make him one, tbf, and without complaint.

BettyfromBristol · 04/01/2022 22:02

Mine is also brilliant at stuff like plumbing, woodwork and electricity despite not being trained. We hardly ever call in anyone to do stuff. He is good at financial stuff and patiently turns my haphazard accounts from my business into a tax return each year.

theremustonlybeone · 04/01/2022 22:05

My DH does deep cleans like a professional. He also can put his hand to anything - got an antique chair, bought a sewing machine and reupholstered it after researching how to do it

JambalayaOrGumbo · 04/01/2022 22:07

Been with mine since we were teenagers together and we're now mid 60's. He can turn his hand to most jobs around the house (excluding housework - just this morning he asked me how to operate the washing machine, as he had some "shed stuff" that needed a wash). He's saved us a fortune in car maintenance over the years. Can reverse a trailer better than anyone I know. The kids would laugh at Dad creating an Excel spreadsheet for our camping trips, but would then marvel that nothing was ever forgotten and we camped in style. Takes our 2 doggies out for a morning walk religiously. Is great with our kids and my elderly mum loves him (more than me and my 5 siblings I think Smile). He has such patience with her and will listen to the same story over & over and sound interested every time. And he loves me and tells me often. Wouldn't change him for quids.

badalmond · 04/01/2022 22:07

Tidying up. I'm completely incapable of arranging the contents of a cupboard or finding a place for new things.

beenwhereyouare · 04/01/2022 22:07

He makes me laugh. Even when I'm angry or injured or sick, he says the most outrageous things- I start snickering and immediately feel better.

Also, he's very generous and giving in bed. He makes sure I have a good time first, every time. For 42 years. 😍

Now if I could just get him to empty his pockets before I do a load.😉

Zoom101 · 04/01/2022 22:09

Reverse parking, brilliant sense of direction so we rarely get lost, makes the best cup of tea and very good at travel arrangements. Love him!

PiddleOfPuppies · 04/01/2022 22:12

He's incredibly calm in a crisis, totally level headed. He also makes perfect fried eggs, as did his dad.
He is also snores like a walrus so the universe is balanced.
