So as title says basically when to tell them? Mum says straight away. Friends say after a while (whatever that means)

I have children and am OLD, I tell people whilst messaging. I’ve also never introduced anyone to them as I haven’t had a long enough relationship lol! I would wait 2 years before doing that. It seems deceptive to lie about having children, I like to be upfront.

My last relationship was 13 years I have no clue how to go about this 😅 it's all brand new to me. I agree that people should be told before you meet in person if it's a online thing. I don't plan on meeting up with people straight away. A few days of messages 1st I think. Mabye even that's wrong. I'm rambling now sorry 😞

Right away. Before the date. I don't understand why you wouldn't.

FrancescaContini · 30/12/2021 22:35

Straight away. Why wouldn’t you?!

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/12/2021 22:36

Nope. You don't let a man woo you be Xmas you have children to be abused.

It has been a while since I was OLD but generally speaking both parties would swap several 'get to know each other' emails followed by speaking on the phone before meeting. This process generally weeded out the time wasters and fruitcakes or anyone else you got a bad vibe from.

B1rdflyinghigh · 30/12/2021 22:42

I state that I have a child who is 11. I don't state which sex. At 49, it's important to inform people of this straight away. Especially at my age, where most people have children who are over 18 and would rather meet someone who is available more frequently.

Definitely have a good few days of messaging. Look at the words they use to. The 3 month mark is crucial, this is usually when a relationship starts breaking down as you get to find out more about someone.

Casper001 · 30/12/2021 22:43

You don't have to put in profile although Bumble is a good one as most people mention as there's a default question on it.

But if not in profile you should mention in the first few messages as it'll save you time.

SmartCar · 30/12/2021 22:46

Don't know if it makes a difference but I'm 28 Currntly on tinder. Aren't some men just charming 🤣

Straightaway/ on the first date.
It's a deal breaker for some people and no point wasting your or their time.

Livandme · 30/12/2021 23:31

Before meeting up. Not exact details but Ive given number and ages of children before meeting up.
Last bloke who ghosted me had just asked about my day and I said something about the dc coming back from their dads.
No loss to me. Dc will always come first

ParisPreMom · 30/12/2021 23:34

The pedophile argument is ridiculous! Simply telling a person you're getting to know that you have children is hardly dangerous...Anyone who thinks it is probably shouldn't be exploring OLD or anything else. I'd say its super important to say right up front so the person knows how available you will (or won't) be and what your priorities are. Saying you (already) have children is usually a turn on for the 40-something crowd, as they also have children already and steer clear of thirty-somethings looking to start a family.

Atmywitsend29 · 30/12/2021 23:37

Straight away tbh. I told my now DH when we were chatting before our first date, in fact told him he had to wait until DS went to school in September before I had any free time to go on a date xD

jimmyjammy001 · 30/12/2021 23:43

As everyone else has said straight away, preferably within the first paragraph you ever write to him, children are a deal breaker for many in a relationship, what's the point in going on a date or talking to each other if the other person isn't interested in dating someone who allready has children, your just be wasting each others time.

Gildedbrooks · 31/12/2021 00:46

@DillonPanthersTexas I'll agree to disagree with you.

Dbank · 31/12/2021 09:11

My wife told me in the first sentence we had.
