So family unfriendly! Working hours have been pushed

I absolutely HATE it they force us with their STUPID flexibility to work till 22:00 (for 6 weeks for Christmas, fair enough) and 20:30 in retail.

I used to finish at 18:30 the latest.

Family evening is RUINED when I get home by 21:30/22:30.

Please DON'T tell me I am lucky to have a job.

My post is NOT about that.

And no, I am not in a position to change my job for the nearest 3-5 years minimum.

I originally DID NOT sign up these hours but they they are pushing and pushing!!!

Why can't you change job?

It makes no sense to commit yourself to 3 more years of this when you already know you don't want to do it Confused

Lana07 · 18/11/2021 22:41

Please DON'T tell me there are through-the-night jobs etc.

I would never ever work through the night in my life as it would ruin my sleep and I would be miserable. So I would never ever choose it in the 1st place.

I said why.

No you didn't?

Lana07 · 18/11/2021 22:44

Do you think it's so easy to change it, especially after lockdowns in a town of 150 000 and get a permanent job?

For 2 years and 2 months, I depend on my shares in this job.

There’s so many jobs available why would you stay for 3 years in a situation you hate? You’re not in prison.

KerfuffleShuffle · 18/11/2021 22:44

I'm not sure I understand you. You haven't given much context to your job - what is your roll/contract etc. Why can't you look and apply for more suitable jobs? You haven't said why. And why is this in relationships?

Lana07 · 18/11/2021 22:46

Our son is 14.

I get to see him only on my days off

OP posts:
Lana07 · 18/11/2021 22:46

The same with my husband.

Your role darn autocorrect

I said why above.

Because it affects my family life.

KerfuffleShuffle · 18/11/2021 22:47

It might be difficult and take a while to find a more suitable role, but is there a reason why you can't start looking and applying?

LittleBirdBlu · 18/11/2021 22:47

You seem very angry but your post isn't very clear. Why do you have to stay in a job you are not enjoying. Apply for something else.

LindaLooky · 18/11/2021 22:48

Yeah it sucks Flowers

pastypirate · 18/11/2021 22:49

Eh?

KerfuffleShuffle · 18/11/2021 22:50

Is there a reason for the confrontational tone? I understand you are frustrated by your job situation but we're just strangers on the internet looking to offer advice and support. If you keep jumping down people's throats and being obtrusive instead of replying to people's questions then people won't want to help.

doyouwantachuffedybadge · 18/11/2021 22:50

If its not the hours in your contract then you can say no . And even if the contract says they can expect things to change you can ask for alternative hours and they have to show they have considered your request otherwise you can take them to court if they try to dismiss you because you wont work the hours they want.

Nobody has suggested this at all.

If you don’t like the new hours then look for a new job, nobody is forced to work anywhere, you’re not explaining your reasoning very well.

Lana07 · 18/11/2021 22:53

@LawnFever

I explained it's because I have shares for 2 years and 2 months

OP posts:
VanGoghsDog · 18/11/2021 22:53

Put in a flexible working request to work to your original hours?

So, you're putting money above your family life?

You know this is designed to keep you there and exploit you. And you're enabling that. I really doubt they are worth that much.

I am ok with the job.

I HATE the new hours.

I CAN NOT change the job because I depend on its shares for 2 years and 2 months minimum.

It is NOT that easy to find a permanent job. Especially after neve ending lockdowns.

Why don't you train in your time off to do something else?

Lana07 · 18/11/2021 22:58

@VanGoghsDog

Yes, of course I put the money about my family time because I need the money to have happy life.

OP posts:
KerfuffleShuffle · 18/11/2021 22:58

What is in your contract? Does it state flexible work hours or does it state fixed shifts?
