Husband stopping all money

I'm divorcing my husband, at preliminary stages so he doesn't know yet, on advice of solicitor.
He announced a couple of days ago he's stopping giving me any money at all, even for food. We have 2 DC, he's just buying his own fondant the moment.
I work part time and don't earn much, I'm grabbing all the hours I can though.
I have some savings, but I think they'll get eaten up with divorce costs.
Anyone else been in this situation?

Thank you so much everyone.
I’m stupidly nervous about reporting him as he’s only done it twice recently.
I’ve got to send a deposit ti the solicitor to engage him then he’ll speak to me about finances. I can’t believe I’m in this mess. I’m so embarrassed and ashamed.

@TeacherMa

You've done really well today Xippo. I'm concerned about your safety. Is there any way you could call Women's Aid for a more urgent response? I think that the 5 days email reply time is for general enquiries. Your situation is far more urgent. Are you able to say why you won't report to the police? Are you worried it will endanger you further? Women's Aid or any similar charities should be able to give you best advice. Please find a way to call one of them tonight.
I’ll actually call them tomorrow then. Im terrified of when the shit hits the fan 😞

You can apply for Child Maintenance even if you live in the same house, you just need to confirm you are no longer together. Stop doing anything for him. You can submit a claim online. If I were you I would do that straight away.

If you have any joint accounts, immediately tell the organisation that you are in dispute with you stbx - if I were you I would withdraw half of what is in there. The organisation can put a freeze on the account in the case of disputes.My ex got to them before me and closed our joint accounts down without me knowing.

Can you Google the name of your local authority and then 'domestic abuse' (if it's safe to do so?) to see what they offer locally? Lots of local authorities have departments to help people experiencing domestic abuse.

Write down your statement before you go to the police station. Make sure you write everything down.

Write facts.

You'll be a wobbly piece of jelly when you get there, but you'll have your notes. They will probably be very kind,

Good Luck

You'll be so glad you did it.

You’ve all been so kind. I’ll engage with agencies tomorrow.

Stay safe tonight Xippo. Keep up your strength for tomorrow when you reach out to the various agencies suggested on here. You will get through this.

@Xippo

He assaulted me about 6 weeks ago, I don't .feel comfortable calling the police now. If he does it again I will though.My solicitor doesn't deal with legal aid cases
You need to report Do you have dc Will he see them?
Xippo · 19/10/2021 21:13

2 dc, I dont think they'll be too bothered about seeing him, doubt he'll make the effort tbh.

None of this is your fault, don't blame yourself and reporting him for assault is difficult but the right thing to do for you and your kids. He is the only one to blame here.
