Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

re the whole being hassled thing, i get it but sometimes we genuinely havnt heard of them and they still behave like luvvies, and we normals sometimes have no idea who they are!

It often seems to be the Z listers who are most annoyed at not being recognised, from what I've heard.

KirstenBlest · 10/10/2021 19:51

Not RTFT, but was the Brookkside actress Lisa Faulkner?

lots33 · 10/10/2021 19:52

Following on from the comments about James Corden being vile, has anyone met Ruth Jones? I love her writing and acting (Stella, Nessa, Hattie) and I really want her to be nice!

DrSbaitso · 10/10/2021 19:53

I don't know if this is true, but I hope it is. The story is that Wilbur Smith was once on a plane and took out a new copy of his latest book to look it over. The man next to him asked if he was a Wilbur Smith fan, and Smith replied that he was. The man then proceeded to tell him that he was a close personal friend of Smith's, that they met up frequently and Smith had actually based one of his heroes on him. Throughout, Smith just nodded and said, "Really?" and "How wonderful."

Eventually the man suggested that Smith give him his business card and he would get a signed copy of his favourite book over to him. Smith handed him his card, which the man pocketed without reading, and they carried on chatting until they landed.

Smith never heard from him.

Rustie Lee lives in my nearest town. I don’t think I’ve ever used this term before but - what a bitch.

My office overlooked the Main Street and the worst example of her behaviour was strutting about as a UKIP candidate, screeching so loudly we could hear her from across the street. We then opened the window to eavesdrop.

The turned on the Big Issue lady (who had been there for years and was unfailingly polite) and started shouting abs blarting that “people like that” shouldn’t be in our town or loitering and that she would stop immigration. It went on for several minutes. People were booing her in the end.

Ghastly.

AdoptedBumpkin · 10/10/2021 19:54

Has anyone met any of the Last Leg presenters? I really hope they are as nice as they seem on the show.

aConcernedPrude · 10/10/2021 19:56

@ohthestruggles

I've always thought Clare balding was really unpleasant, especially after she poked fun at the National-winning jockey about his teeth. Have never met her but she gives off bad vibes.
I'm so glad someone else remembers this, I remember watching at the time and being really appalled that she got away with it. I wanted to cry for him, he didn't even flinch Sad

@PinaGrigio

DH & I met Johnny Vegas in a St Helens hotel a few years ago. He was absolutely lovely. He'd just finished doing a gig and must have been knackered, but he spent ages chatting and joking to us and other family members and posing for photos.

DH met Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn & Alex Langlands (Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm etc) when they came to film a programme where he volunteers, and said that they were all v friendly and down to earth. He chatted to Ruth during one of the filming breaks and told her how much I enjoyed her work (I'm a huge fan!).

A friend was also really complimentary about Tom Burke (Strike, The 3 Musketeers). He was in a play in her town and he came to talk to her drama students. She said she would not expect him to as he would have been incredibly busy with rehearsals, but he spent ages talking to the students and answering all their questions and being really encouraging to them. Lovely chap.

My son met him in the pub. He insisted my son and his mates join them and they spent the evening having a fantastic time. My son has met a lot of celebs and says JV was the nicest, kindest and funniest man he’s met.
RadioSixMusicLover · 10/10/2021 19:56

Bill Nighy is my friend’s uncle, through his marriage to Diana Quick. He is absolutely lovely. I love seeing the photos of family parties!

namechangerrrrssss · 10/10/2021 19:56

Gordon Ramsey is the complete opposite to how he is on tv e.g. Hells Kitchen. Very charismatic and charming.

Stephanie Seymour - exceptionally rude to cabin crew.

Cheryl Cole or whatever her surname is now - surly, aggressive and rude.

Hen2018 · 10/10/2021 19:57

The 3 recent MPs locally, that I had to meet due to work, were all genuinely interested and polite. 3 different parties in my constituency since 1997, which is unusual.

The incumbent is famous for calling his secretary “sugar tits” but does take on unfashionable topics including the “rough sex” defence that men use after murdering their partner. (Still wouldn’t vote for his party!)

The Conservative pre 1997 wouldn’t speak to lowly council workers like me.

JustThisLastLittleBit · 10/10/2021 19:59

I’ve learned that, by and large, the richest people are the most phenomenally tight-fisted and people who are funny/nice for a living are miserable/rude in real life. Steve Punt for example is very aptly named!

KirstenBlest · 10/10/2021 20:00

@2Two

Cherie Blair was absolutely fine when I met her. I think Chris Packham is allowed quite a lot of slack given his autism.
Self-diagnosed autism.
Flowerpower23 · 10/10/2021 20:00

@PurpleEchoLamp

My Tumble is a bit of a nob, as is Andy from cbeebies. Surprised to hear bad stuff about Alexander Armstrong, he was utterly lovely when we met him.
Omg not ANDY!!!

Steve Punt? I haven’t seen him since at least 1995!
Flowerpower23 · 10/10/2021 20:02

Not a dick experience but I was a waitress when I was younger and Brendan Cole came in with some other dancers, they stayed for hours and he was absolutely lovely, one of the nicest men I’ve ever met!

shallIswim · 10/10/2021 20:03

@DoraMaude what do you do to have met such a range of famous people?!

Washeduponthebeach · 10/10/2021 20:03

@Puffalicious

Washedup I reckon it's Catherine Tate.
That figures!
nettie434 · 10/10/2021 20:03

@simitra

Not everyone wants to "make friends".

Some of us are just very private and busy people who have our own agenda of things we need to get through in a day. We dont want to chat to neighbours over the garden fence, take in parcels, or get involved in day to day trivia.

So we dont answer the door when our ring doorbell shows its a time waster like a sales person, collector or whingy neighbour. We cultivate a "busy busy must get on" air and a clipped "morning" tone when we do pass you in the street.

Its not that we hate you, just that you dont merit space in or add value to our particular social world.

Completely mystified by this post unless you are a famous person, Simitra. Almost without exception, the people mentioned on this thread need some level of popularity in order to be successful. They need people to buy the products they endorse, the music they make or the plays/films they act in. You can carry on being 'busy busy' if we pass on the street as we are not invested in admiring what you do.

Of course some famous people are naturally shy or never expected to be famous and they will find celebrity status hard. Others seem to manage it well. I've only ever seen a few celebrities while eating in the same restaurant. Nobody bothered them because I assume we all thought they were just having a meal in private.

It's been fascinating to see the same names crop up in the nice/nasty sleb categories.

I'd hate to think Marcus Rashford was difficult in real life. He does come across as rather shy and not as naturally eloquent as other footballers. Patrick Bamford from Leeds is brilliant in front of the camera, as is Michail Antonio from West Ham. If anybody tells me Bukayo Sako is nasty, I shall cry all evening!!!

@Flowerpower23

Andy of AATOS was one of THE nicest family / kid Celebs we've ever done a campaign with. Above and beyond lovely. I appreciate that was at a paid gig and not out and about but I've only ever heard super good things about him personally and experienced him being lovely first hand. Would do your head in to live with as an adult I imagine as he's a million miles an hour, but great with the kids!

JustThisLastLittleBit · 10/10/2021 20:04

@RadioSixMusicLover he’s still on the radio though

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/10/2021 20:06

Met Anita Dobson many years ago - lovely lady.

Ronnie Wood was polite and well mannered to the cabin crew and passengers. I remember following him off the plane whilst the photographers were shouting, “Mr wood, Mr Wood”. He was charming to them as well.

I was once given some granola for breakfast on a flight because Jeremy Irons did not want it!

KalvinPhillipsManBun · 10/10/2021 20:06

Elizabeth Hurley and Jesy Nelson and her friends.

Flowerpower23 · 10/10/2021 20:06

@Still1nLove

Gary Oldman and Alison moyet. I worked at a hotel in london and served a lot of celebs and high profile personalities. These two were the worst
Wow that’s disappointing about Gary 😢
AdoptedBumpkin · 10/10/2021 20:08

As @nettie434 mentioned footballers, a relative once told me a story about a non-Premiership footballer who used the "Don't you know who I am?" in a nightclub. The reply was "Yes, you're our reserve left back." 😂
