Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

@Sidneysussex

James Corden. Met him at a wedding probably 2003. He is awful. Arrogant twat in the extreme. He was very quick to make sure everyone know he was a star. He probably wasn't even that famous back then. I do not understand what people can see in him to make him so famous?
I’m guessing because he is an arch mediocrity who would make a shit shine
hoochyhooha · 10/10/2021 09:38

Tom Baker too 😍 what a darling.

groovergirl · 10/10/2021 09:39

Dana ran for the Presidency of Ireland.in 1997.
Mary Mc Aleese went on to win it.
Dans was also an MEP ( member of the European Parliamentary) 1999 - 2004.[/quote]
Aha, thanks for clarifying! Dana lived in Alabama for eight years and took US citizenship (says Wikipedia), hence my confusion. She's been back in Ireland for about 20 years! Blush

supermoonrising · 10/10/2021 09:41

Why after everything he has done would you believe a couple of anonymous randoms off the internet

I think it’s perfectly possible for people to be generous with their time and/or money and to behave politely during public events - while also being cold/arrogant/standoffish off camera.

You can be a generous person and good in some aspects without necessarily being friendly or down to Earth. People are complex…

sospspsp · 10/10/2021 09:45

@Bagelsandbrie

Piers Morgan. Came into where I worked at a media company for an interview and I had to show him to a room to have his make up done and he was so rude to me. Really awful, so demanding and moany. This was about 20 years ago now…!
I'm surprised you were surprised! Grin
allthegoodusernameshavegone · 10/10/2021 09:45

I think Marcus Rashford should be cut some slack, he’s a 23 year old from a working class, single parent background, who from hard work and talent has been propelled into a world of riches and fame, he has used this fame for good and making people aware of the struggles of poorer families. hopefully he has been guided by mentors to stay a little aloof and distance himself for his own benefit as the media and to some extent the public will always be at the ready to bring him down.

@Walkingthedog46

New job on Reception - man comes in (who turned out to be a famous author, but I didn’t know who he was at the time). He just said ‘I’m expected’. When I said ‘what name is it please?’ He replied ‘don’t get funny with me, dear’. The person he had come to see appeared at that moment and took him off, so I had to ask a colleague who the hell that was.
Martin Amis?
shallIswim · 10/10/2021 09:50

Anne Widecombe was lovely when I interviewed her. Offered me tea and everything.

SlateCoaster · 10/10/2021 09:51

Reggie Yates - Could not be further up his own arse!! Rude and arrogant.

Russell Howard - His "quirky", "bubbly" persona is for the cameras. Once they stop rolling the act is dropped and he's a miserable sod.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/10/2021 09:52

There's just something about 'Don't get funny with me, dear' that's cracked me up. What an out and out twat to actually say that! I don't imagine there's a single human being on the planet who'd be instantly recognisable to everyone. The closest is probably the Queen, followed perhaps by the Pope and maybe some US presidents/ex-presidents. I'm useless at remembering names and recognising faces, so for all I know I could be ignoring celebs all the time.

BelfastSmile · 10/10/2021 09:52

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName

A very Northern Ireland specific one - I can confirm that “Ma” from Give My Head Peace, is absolutely lovely. A true lady.
I agree! Her daughter is a good friend of mine, so I've met Ma a few times, and she's adorable!
SunShinesBrightly · 10/10/2021 09:55

@acornfed

I kind of see that you mean *@LubaLuca* . However she doesn't act like someone who is having an off day. It's more than that. If anything we give her more space as we don't want to seem like we want to be her friend
Who do you mean by ‘we’ ? Are you speaking all the other parents too? Maybe she doesn’t like the ‘group dynamics’.

That's a dreadful way to speak to anyone. Hope he gets his comeuppance!

@Candleinthebreeze

One that amazes me is Marcus Rashford, I’ve met him many times and as a Man Utd fan who goes to every game, it pains me to say it that I wish I had never met him.

He has an amazing pr machine, and is a great actor in front of a camera. As soon as the camera is off he is a very different person in my many experiences with him, I know a lot of his close contacts and they all feel exactly the same way as me.

I've always thought that. He has a brilliant PR team. I don't get the adulation he receives. No idea if he's nice or horrible irl though Smile
MintyGreenDream · 10/10/2021 10:02

@Inthesameboatatmo I've always thought she'd be like that, too faux nice for me

Aliveandkicking23 · 10/10/2021 10:04

A number of years ago I was working with another girl on the reception desk for a large bank.
Someone famous came in and was speaking to the other girl who was only 20 years old.
He was being an arse and came out with the classic line 'Do you know who I am'
Her reply was 'Sorry no I don't can I have your name please'
It was Richard Madely. What a t**t he reported her for being rude and she was moved
of the desk.

meadowbleu · 10/10/2021 10:06

You don't have to believe a comment from an anonymous poster.

No, I know that, but more than one person said similar about MR and one said they're a fan of his team. It didn't seem to be said maliciously. I do think he's quite a shy person though and his exposure and workload has increased massively over the past 18 months.

Usually people speak as they find and we do all have good and bad days depending on what else has happened to us and where we are at the time. It must be very stressful to be constantly 'On' For most celebs and public figures someone has an opposite experience. The only people I seem to remember being flagged up as badly behaved wihout contradiction are Lenny Henry, David Walliams, James Corden, Cilla Black and often Madonna. Unless anyone knows differently?

ufucoffee · 10/10/2021 10:07

@forgotmyusernamagain

Paul Weller

Never met him but led to believe he's a bit of a knob

I know lots of people who met him when he was in the Jam. He treated his fans with the utmost disdain. Unlike Bruce and Rick. I've hated him ever since.
Fairyliz · 10/10/2021 10:11

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

I don't want to believe re Marcus Rashford Sad What has he supposedly done or said?
Well he berated the government over free school meals then channels his earnings through a company to pay less income tax. Bit of a hypocrite if nothing else.
forgotmyusernamagain · 10/10/2021 10:12

@ufucoffee that's my era yip
I also remember reading an article about him and a considerably younger partner being so off their face on whatever that they were spralled in the street

wetfloor · 10/10/2021 10:12

Let paul Hollywood and he was lovely!

AuditAngel · 10/10/2021 10:13

We’ve met a few as my children have performed professionally.

Daniel Bedingfield got sacked due to unprofessional behaviour. Took days off when he felt like it, other accusations made but I only heard rumours.

Jimmy Nail was grumpy, not interested in speaking to anyone,

Timmy Mallett threw a tantrum when a chaperone (whose sole job in theatre is to look after the children in a production) refused to leave the kids alone backstage to fetch something from his dressing room.

Many more who have been lovely.

David Essex never said no to a photo request and would make a toy out of nothing (reel of tape and a cardboard tube become cricket set) and get up to mischief

Ann Widdecombe went out of her way to be nice to the kids and gave them all a House of Commons pencil and rubber as a gift

Two chasers (Jenny and Anne) were brilliant with the kids and took time to explain things to them, at a level the kids could understand

Anthea Turner was lovely to me, but I heard not to everyone backstage

Was thrilled to meet Joanna Lumley who was charming and interested in the people she met

Foxlover46 · 10/10/2021 10:15

My dad has cousins who are famous from being in a 80s band ... he's met celebs through them over the years ... he said George micheal was a guy who was pure nice .. chat to like you've been his mate for years , Clare grogan was his fave he said she was stunning and a lovely woman , out of the eastenders lot he said dot cotton was so funny and tamsin outhwaite really lovely ... he's a huge racing fella and has met Frankie Dettorri many times and has always said he is very arrogant
I was working on a beauty counter a few years back and it was a quiet patch , absolute handsome striking
Man strolled down the aisle to the exit, I though he looks familiar , caught his eye and he sort of half smiled / nodded which of course I smiled back ...girl on opposite beauty counter looked over to me and said omg that was Daniel Craig .. that guy def had a presence about him

Branleuse · 10/10/2021 10:16

Imagine having to be nice to every bloody stranger no matter how many times a day you get harrassed because everyone recognises you off the telly.

I watshed the billie eilish documentary a few months ago and it really made me think about the pressure some people are under to always be at their best and act like every strangers mate

leavesthataregreen · 10/10/2021 10:17

@DrSbaitso

Margaret Atwood is a cow.
I heard the opposite. DH worked with her and she brought out home made muffins for the whole crew because she was worried they wouldn't have had time to get breakfast. He thought she was lovely.
