DP hates my favourite mug

AmITheAsshole · 05/08/2021 02:55

It was a present from my father for my 21st birthday.

He died when I was 27.

This has been my favourite mug for nearly 10 years. Its the only mug I’ll drink out of when I’m at home. My dp hates it though. He thinks I have an unhealthy relationship with this mug and thinks I need to let it go.

Is he right?

Keep the mug xx

Ditch the 'D'P

He's a twat

I am very particular about which mugs I will drink out of

We have a cupboard full but I will only drink out of 3 or 4. I can see that having a single mug you like could be impractical on occasion but I can't really see that it's anyone else's business but yours.

I'd be grateful that he dislikes the mug as that means he won't try to use it for himself!

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/08/2021 14:36

@YarnOver

Well that's bloody mean of him Just watch out that he doesn't "accidentally" do something to the mug.
Breaking it ‘accidentally’ was also my first thought.
Mamamamasaurus · 05/08/2021 14:40

Is he a massive douche in other areas of your relationship?

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 05/08/2021 14:57

@Ozanj

I have a mug like this so DH spent stupid money to buy a set he could replace it with secretly if it broke. I only found out when I opened one of the parcels.
Oh that's so sweet!

I have a feeling OP is in the US (based on username and time of post) so I will be interested to hear whether she had her morning brew in The Mug today!

I agree with others OP that your P sounds irrationally jealous of an inanimate object, which is sad as fuck and would make my vagina dry up.

He thinks I have an unhealthy relationship with this mug
To be honest, this worries me - not about the mug, but about his attitude to you.
Of course it's important to you, it represents do much more than just a vessel to drink from.
Keep the mug, ditch the DP! Brew

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/08/2021 15:06

You need to find yourself another mug.

Not because being attached to it is wrong, but because a man with such a vicious response to it is definitely the type who will smash it or throw it away the moment your back is turned or he's pissed off with you for something else.

MotherOfDemons · 05/08/2021 15:09

You do have an unhealthy relationship yes.

Why are you even entertaining this loser? What will he try and control in your life next?

dorsetmamaa · 05/08/2021 15:18

@PonyPals

How is this even a conversation?
Lol i know.
AtrociousCircumstance · 05/08/2021 15:23

And you’re with him because…?

Surely this isn’t someone you would sensibly choose to have in your life.

Colourmeclear · 05/08/2021 16:51

If you can't drink out of the mug, what is your reaction? Will you at a push drink out of another?

I think it's lovely that you have this mug. My mum passed away in my 20s and would have loved something so practical, literally warm and comforting to hold her memory.
