Hi all,

Can anyone recommend the best OLD website to sign up to?

Looking for a serious relationship and I’m in my 30s if that helps

Been looking at Match and Eharmony but just not sure what to try.

Thank you!

Match or its sister site Dating Direct.com were good 5 years ago when I used it last. Guardian Soulmates is good. I would avoid Plenty of Fish or Zoosk....rubbish and the people that run it create false 'views'.

OP - take a look at this thread. You'll get loads of non judgemental advice there.

Eharmony is full of men who couldn’t pull on a free site, don’t waste your money. POF is awful. I like Hinge and have actually had the most success on Tinder.

Be prepared to develop a very thick skin, fine tune your arsehole radar and try not to take to heart the inevitable ghosting/catfishing etc. Online is 90% losers but there are decent men too, they’re just well hidden. Good luck!

Bumble

bangheadhere40 · 15/03/2021 13:12

I would go tinder or bumble.

Pof - full of the dregs.
Match - no better even though paying...most on free sites anyway.

People say hinge is good but it depends where you live.

Do NOT sign up to eHarmony unless you want to stay signed up for 12 monthly payments. When you initially sign up its unclear that even if you select "cancel automatic renewal" they will only cancel the renewal after a full 12 months.

If you look online at reviews you will see lots of people are caught out by this. Even their appeals department are strict and wouldnt let me off even when i had zero matches within 100km!

So yeah, not them!

ShaneTheThird · 15/03/2021 14:43

I used tinder, pof and bumble. I met good and bad on all of them. Had the most success on tinder and pof. Pof had the most weirdos and nutters but if you have a thick skin it can be a laugh plus i met dp on pof 3 years ago.

ultragroupie · 15/03/2021 14:51

I used Match but it was 10 years ago!

Someone I used to go to school with has set up a dating website where everyone gets DBS checked before they can join - seems like a good idea: saferdate.co.uk/
I don't know how many people they have on their books but it seems like a good plan.

Captnip500 · 15/03/2021 15:56

I had most luck on Tinder and bumble. But then I live in a relatively sparsely populated location and I don’t think the smaller sites would have enough people on there in my
area.

I found POF to be a bit more trashy and sleazy. I did Match for one month but really didn’t think it was worth paying. It’s the same men on there as the free sites and the average age seemed a bit older.

The only one I would definitely tell you to avoid is Badoo. I got plenty of messages but Jesus! The state of them on there! For some reason it seems to be full of the dregs of society, in my area anyway.

firstimemamma · 15/03/2021 15:59

I met my wonderful fiancé on match over 6 years ago. Go for it!

cyclingbear · 16/03/2021 06:41

Thanks for the advice. I had been leaning towards Eharmony so thanks for the warning on that one.

Bumble was also on my list as one to use so I will consider that a bit more

Thanks
