Wedding reception playlist

Me and DH married in lockdown last year and are planning a reception for this year when it's safe. What are your favourite songs to dance to? We've already got the family party classic- come on Eileen 😂

I had a punk and metal playlist and a punk band. I'd hate come on Eileen. Music is very subjective, have what you like and don't worry about anyone else's taste.

TeaPiglet · 13/02/2021 13:05

@Thingsdogetbetter but I want a bit of something for everyone hence the general question so we can compile an eclectic playlist

My nephew is a wedding DJ and his biggest floor filler is Abba Dancing Queen

TeaPiglet · 13/02/2021 13:34

@happystory ooh love a bit of Abba

We asked all our guests to choose a song they would definitely dance to. Our playlist was incredibly eclectic!

Shoxfordian · 13/02/2021 13:52

I do not like Eileen Grin

Ask the DJ to choose with some veto power

Bealondon · 14/02/2021 22:11

Stevie wonder very superstitious always gets my family up!

Jesskir89 · 14/02/2021 23:30

Sweet Caroline!

Silverthorny · 15/02/2021 06:35

My favourite songs to dance to are Debaser by The Pixies, Sheela Na Gig PJ Harvey, and Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Think it would be great to contrast insipid rubbish with songs about vulvas, slicing up eyeballs and being fucked like an animal...

Silverthorny · 15/02/2021 16:53

But I fully recognise that you may not want me at your wedding...

Silverthorny · 15/02/2021 16:55

...and that’s fine because I’m not sure I agree with the whole idea of marriage anyway...

ErickBroch · 15/02/2021 17:00

I am cringing my arse off at people trying to be edgy in the comments. I also am a punk and hardcore fan but jesus christ, you come across so embarrassing in these threads Grin

OP - I am asking all guests for their number 1 choice before the wedding! I will be vetting though ha

EKGEMS · 15/02/2021 17:14

Oh Lordy that song! I'm an Eileen and have had it sung to me by so many people! Lol good luck and best wishes!

woodhill · 15/02/2021 17:16

When we were doing ours we flicked through tons of wedding playlists on Spotify and just grabbed sounds we liked. You need more than you think!

mootymoo · 15/02/2021 18:11

Got to have 80's classics like tainted love, electric dreams, wake me up before you go go etc - Spotify have a great 80's mix

Marineboy67 · 15/02/2021 18:13

Bit cheesy but I like "You to me are Everything" by Real Thing

Cuppaand2biscuits · 15/02/2021 18:26

Weve been to parties before where we as guests have been asked to choose 2 or 3 songs each to make up the playlist.
It's fun and can be a conversation starter as people chat about the songs they have chosen.

SomersetHamlyn · 15/02/2021 19:09

@Silverthorny Closer by Nine Inch Nails..being fucked like an animal...

Ah yes. The classic song that every single undergraduate thinks is really edgy and dark.

I love this list! Would Mum Dance like a mad lady.
Silverthorny · 15/02/2021 19:12

I’m cringing at the number of truly, truly terrible songs on this thread. Perhaps bad music equates to wedding music because it’s all so contrived.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 15/02/2021 19:16

A good friend of mine had a similar list although much more leaning towards late 80s. They had a huge trunk of wigs, hats and inflatable guitars, saxophones etc. When the more rock tunes came on literally every one grabbed a hat and instrument and went mental. Even my straight laced DH who would usually rather puke in his hands and clap than dance at a wedding went bonkers.

An excellent evening! I bloody love a good wedding Grin

Oooh just thought - Van Halen, Jump

Aaah give over Silver it's a wedding and the music generally has to appeal to everyone from Aunt Edna who's 80 down to the cool teen nieces and nephews!

Saying that at our wedding party I had a Do Not Play list which the DJ was warned to take note of if he wanted his balance paying.

Silverthorny · 15/02/2021 19:34

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz This is the problem! It generally caters for the musically illiterate, and nothing with any true meaning is played. Wedding music reflects the banality and insincerity of the whole occasion.
