Fresh Socks

DP said ‘fresh socks’ and now I have the complete ick. He also keeps saying ‘effectively’ - in every sentence. Why is this winding me up?

Ohhhh The Ick has descended on you!

Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:12

Fresh socks. It makes me feel queasy. I can’t have sex with someone who says ‘fresh socks’.

Thatbliddywoman · 26/08/2020 22:13

A friend of mine used to say this. Ugh. Like socks aren't something you eat?!

Inexperiencedchick · 26/08/2020 22:13

“Panties” another one 😐
Was cringing each time I heard that word😖 It didn’t work for many other reasons.

Could be the way it’s said not the words/expressions.

How do you feel?

Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:14

Clean socks is fine - why can’t he just say clean socks.

OP posts:
Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:16

Fresh panties - blergh, blergh, blergh.

Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:17

Can’t stand it when he says ‘effectively’ either - in every bloody sentence.

What's wrong with fresh socks? Assuming they're unworn or freshly washed? At least he changes them.

Saying that is it a regional thing? Seems like a perfectly normal thing to say to me.

needsomeadviceprettyplease · 26/08/2020 22:24

So fresssshhhhhh socks, yeah thats a little strange

I'm just going to put some fresh socks on, not so strange

Happityhap · 26/08/2020 22:27

Putting fresh socks on when you have fresh feet from a bath is so lovely.
Also fresh panties when you..... you get the idea. Grin

TwentyViginti · 26/08/2020 22:27

Mine was when he texted could of instead of could have.

Made me stabby.

fuandylp · 26/08/2020 22:30

I thought this was going to be a thread about a DP not wearing clean socks everyday and you having to remind them. I had this with my ex - it was just awful. He had athlete's foot all the time too.

Anyway, I don't think him saying fresh socks or effectively is that bad but I do know that once a phrase someone uses begins to irritate you then you notice it all the time and it is bloody annoying.

Do you have any other ick symptoms?

Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:30

Oh god no - fresh feet. Fresh body parts.

OP posts:
Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:31

Effectively I can’t hack. Actually or basically is ok...

OP posts:
Oatywitch · 26/08/2020 22:32

I’d prefer athletes foot to ‘fressshh socks’.

‘Effectively’ is used by DP to make a point, but it grates on me. Sounds self-righteous.

OP posts:
Happityhap · 26/08/2020 22:48

Oh, come on.
That's weird (effectively).

Happityhap · 26/08/2020 22:49

I meant your preference for athlete's foot. Hmm

ZolaGrey · 26/08/2020 23:01

Etc etc. Never known anyone to be able to put "etc etc" into so many sentences. Drives me doolally.

YesSheCan · 26/08/2020 23:10

One of my exes said 'That's crazy!' or 'That's ridiculous!' about almost everything even if it was something quite unremarkable. Then I met his work friends and they all did it too. Used to really annoy me! And constant 'et ceteras' are also rage-inducing, I agree @ZolaGrey

Glittergirl80 · 26/08/2020 23:49

@TwentyViginti

Mine was when he texted could of instead of could have.

Made me stabby.

ohhh that is one of my biggest pet hates lol Grin
Happityhap · 27/08/2020 06:53

Does he use 'effectively' correctly?
Maybe you could query what exactly he means when he says it.
