DP said ‘fresh socks’ and now I have the complete ick. He also keeps saying ‘effectively’ - in every sentence. Why is this winding me up?

Box-fresh socks!!😂

booboo24 · 27/08/2020 12:04

haha, I went out with someome years ago who wanted to 'touch base' when it came to making plans with anyone. It made me want to scream whenever he said it! That and having a tendency to look like Ian Beale from certain angles made me run for the hills! I bet he's happily living his life somewhere alone with all his board room sayings

‘Touch base’ is very annoying. Along with ‘chillax’.

Effectively, I’d like to touch base and chillax in my box fresh socks.

I haven't heard chillax in a long time and I'm still instantly ARGGGGGGGHHHHH NOOO

it winds me up faster than any other word known to mankind.

Irrational, but meh!

How long have you been together? Are they both 'new' for him or have you been tolerating them for a while?

Oatywitch · 27/08/2020 14:14

I also hate ‘quaffable’ - and ‘doffs cap’.

Too long. And tbh ‘effectively’ appears to be on the way out, but has been replaced by an odd popping sound. Which also means ‘I’m right’.

Everything is AMAZING which I hate and also referring to school pupils which is correct but others seem to call them students. I thought student attended college or university. Another few are thus far or rollercoaster or unchartered territory. Even more people using like in each sentence or mutiple times or using SO to start every conversation!

Oatywitch · 27/08/2020 14:24

Or - amazeballs. My daughter says ‘OP’ which stands for overpowering. I don’t mind that. She also says “what the bazoinkers is that??’ or ‘what in the name of salad sandwiches??’ - also ok.

Eminently quaffable - oh please f. off.

I had an ex who always wrote where when he meant were.
I just couldn't understand that. Why would you do that? Why would you not realize it was wrong? He read a lot so surely he must have been reading were instead of where.
It got to the stage where it drove me absolutely mad.

He also used to say "a pair of" when he meant two. That got on my nerves.
He said "it's a biggie" all the time - fucking "biggie". I loathed that.

Yeah, I got the ick... and the first signs of the ick were starting to get irrationally annoyed by some of his sayings.
